I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Another lovely day out there - solid start but three silly bogeys to finish the front 9 annoyed me - so much so I then had three birdies on the bounce and finished level overall- greens are lovely right now

Played with my usual 4 ball today at my mates course. We played a team game that we called “alternates”. Everyone teed off but you then had to play your partners ball for the next shot then alternate until holed. Better ball scored hole. Was total anarchy but was great fun, lots of cursing of the partner.

Sure it will have an official name but never heard of it before, we kinda just thought it up on the first tee.

Isn't that Greensomes?

Swindle, where I am 6 shots lower than club handicap, off 3! It does make things harder!
Pick and place everywhere helps.
Starting double bogey bogey, bogey doesn't, but then did okay with 17 points on the front. Poor 13 points on the back, but still shot club handicap, so not unhappy.
Struggling with 1st putts getting close, but canned loads of seconds from 4-6 foot, thankfully!

Out this afternoon with a mate....not too chilly and dry until halfway up the 18th
Our greens are still way softer than normal so, after 20 or so groups, were a bit bobbly so we didn't read too much into putting stats...
Came in 9 over for 34 points with 3 or 4 putts that, on a smooth green day, would probably have dropped but hey....
The regular shaft in the driver is working extremely well.....
We need a prolonged period of fairly dry weather....sadly, by midweek or so, the rain and even snow returns.....
Cold weather returns tonight so tomorrow is in the lap of the Gods......

That's using one ball after the drive. We were playing both balls. So I would play Stu's drive, he'd play mine. Then I would go back to play mine for my third shot and he would play his... and so on.
Ah. I misunderstood your initial post. Yes, and the alterative is gruesomes, where your opponents pick which ball you have to hit next.
God knows what you were playing, but it sounds fun!

It was chaos the first few holes having to remember which ball to play. But great fun, relying on your partner to give you a decent next shot and them relying on you.

We'll definitely be playing it more often as it was a great laugh.

Played a Fulford today, thanks to a invite from a member, the course was in lovely condition although we were on temps on the first half dozen holes while the frost left the ground, It was nice to play off grass after just playing of mats for the last couple of months. Played pretty well too, played the par 3s in 1 under plus had a birdie on one of the par 4s, only real blot was an horrendous 8 on a par 5, but finished with 37 points so very leased.

in the clubhouse afterwards our host had to the get the first round in, it is actually a club rule and as we were only having one we couldn't reciprocate.

Played 11 today. Good fun, but crazy. Bunkers frozen solid. Greens rock hard. I hit a 58 degree wedge from 50 yards really nicely on the 1st to the front of the green with a back pin. It's first bounce went about 8 feet in the air and 2nd bounce about 4 feet in the area and ended up 10 yards through the back. If you tried to run them in to the green the grass on the fringes is quite long and balls either bounce in erratic directions or got stuck short. Could barely get a tee in the ground and sliced my finger open trying. Still great fun though.
A good number still entered the weekly Stableford. Trying to secure a HI increase maybe?

Oh my word it was cold, my car told me it was -5°C.
Ground frozen, greens unapproachable and putting was like bagatelle.
Hilarious, absolutely hilarious.

Really? I've been a member for a few years and nobody's ever told me that! I always get the first anyway when playing in club matches and with guests, so I haven't broken that rule, luckily.

An interesting round today, the ground was frozen hard.

On the first hole, knowing it would play shorter, I hit my PW short of the green and it completely took off and ended up 30 yards over the back of the green on our 3rd hole. Sunk a monster putt to make par.

Had my first ever eagle on a par 5 at Leighton Buzzard today, on the 7th. Hole was shortened due to work on the tee box but I hit my driver on a super aggressive line and then used my 8 iron for a bump and run to the front of the green and made another really good putt.

Was 4 over after 9 but conditions got the better of me on the back 9 and shot 15 over gross. Still, was fantastic practice and buzzing to get an eagle.

I'll be honest...I can't be bothered playing on frozen ground...it doesn't even resemble bone hard summer conditions..
If it was my only chance of a game each week then I'd probably play ...but it isn't.....so I don't.
We're going to be, at best, carry only tomorrow and with tonight's rain still falling on frozen ground and the temperatures rising through the night starting the thaw it wouldn't surprise me if were closed.
Very strong winds too so golf hasn't got a lot going for it right now...

Winter Scratch match today against Aspley Guise

Was paired with a 14 year old playing his 1st scratch match - once he got over the nerves he was solid and played some great golf , we won 2 up with the highlight an eagle on 3 - team won 4 nil

Only played 9 this morning and Shot a 36.

Sods law that after booking a lesson in 10 days to sort out my driver, I hit every fairway

Stupid bloody game

Managed to get a round in this afternoon. Had zero expectations because
A. The greens were all frozen solid
B. This was my first round since the lesson I had nine days ago, and
C. I've been sick as a dog with laryngitis all week so it was just nice to be out.

Swing-wise I was striking it fairly well but had a common problem with all clubs that I hit a lot of straight pulls left for some reason. Cost me a few chip-outs from drives unfortunately. Only hit one slice all day though really. Did have one shank and one almost-shank but these things happen when you make a swing change I guess.

Highlight of the day was putting out of a bunker since it was solid and had a perfect little ramp lining me up to the flag - worked a treat and put it to about 8 feet! Unfortunately left the putt an inch short. Was also my first round with the Odyssey Versa face-balanced thing, and I left quite a few short as I need to get used to the 'white hot' face. Was nice and easy to line up though.

I managed four pars, the rest was a bit of a mess but whatever.
