I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Had a 'bonus' WFH day thanks to the trains, so took advantage of the weather again with a 4:15 tee time - played seven holes on the back nine and the wife tagged along for five of them.

Started with three lovely pars, two up and downs and a cracking 3 wood approach onto the green on our S.I.1 12th. Course was dry as a bone, on our downhill 11th I managed a frankly ludicrous 283 yard drive!

First blunder was on the 13th, when I found a bunker with my second and took two to get out, as is usual nowadays - double bogey. Skipped to the 16th and made bogey there, before parring the last two. On the 18th I was just through the back with my second, slightly duffed the hybrid chip on so dropped a second ball for practice - holed it. Typical. At least I still sank the par putt with the main ball.

Five pars from seven holes, very happy with that!

Pro Am at Petersfield today, a new course for me and whilst nothing special it was in pretty good nick….especially the greens which were very good.

Course seemed to be set up tough for the pros, with the tees all the way back and tricky pins. Started really well for myself, and was 1 over gross after 7 holes. Got a little bit wobbly through to about 15 and then the wheels pretty much fell off 😂.

Best 2 from 4 to count, so not sure what I ended up with but it was an enjoyable day out and overall hit the ball pretty well.

Another decent round today. Strong front 9, all very solid and tight. Wobbled at the start of the back 9 but brought it back together by the end.

I was particularly happy with my putting today, I was very reliable from 3-4ft and those putts make a big difference over the course of a round.

Finished with 35 points, happy with that. No more rain for the rest of the season please, I'm loving the run on the fairways at the moment 😍

Had stuff to do so went for an early solo
Hit the 1st shot at 5.13 and was home by 8.
3 over gross, 74 blows, 3 birdies, 2 hares, several Kites, a balloon, a Chinook, a Muntjac and a couple of stray greenkeepers...
Might do it again tomorrow 😉😋

Weird day today I lost 2 balls (could not be bothered to look to hard to save time*).
2 birdies and several pars all in adding up to within 0.1 of H.I.

* I was out as pairs marker and was trying not to affect their game.

Probably belong in the irritations thread, but managed to get my handicap cut by 0.3, yet NRed our first trophy match of the season. Lost two balls on the 16th for the NR (in fairly findable rough) then finished par, birdie.

Played away off a 2 handicap, a lady won the day off a 41 handicap....
shot 6 over par, gave two shots away on a par 5, about to hit 3 wood second, and after a couple of
waggles, felt that the head had come loose, went ahead and hit it, yep straight left into the trees.

Pulled out the tool to tighten it......boy do I do some dumb things at times.

Plus it bloody well rained on us today, cannot remember the last time I put a brolly up, roll on summer.

No idea why I decided to play after seeing the weather forecast. 40mph freezing wind from the north, plenty of bouts of rain/hail as well. Had woolly hat, mitts, thermal gear and waterproofs on and was still cold at times.

Our first hole is only 330 yards and it’s usually a drive and pitch today I hit driver then 3 hybrid and was still short. Think my drive went 180 yards at most. Drove the 340 yard 8th that was downwind but a lot of the holes it was just blowing across and moving iron shots 40 yards in the air.

Ended on 27 points with 2 lost balls. One bright spot was my putting, was much happier with it today.

Decided to play this morning despite doing a charity football match last night and my legs being absolutely marmalised. It was scheduled to be windy, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Starting from the 10th I had a decent start, only 3 over after six including an unlucky double but also a chip-in birdie with hybrid - just love chipping with that thing at the moment. Got to the 16th and absolutely ripped driver down there with wind behind - must be the longest I've ever hit on that hole, but found bunker right of the green, and shanked it out of there into a bush. Bunkers are such kryptonite at the moment, my confidence is at an all time low. So blobbed that hole but still managed 18 points by half way. Unfortunately I was 2 down in the match against my 11 handicap mate.

Then got my second birdie of the day on the tough par 3 1st, hitting green with hybrid and sinking the putt. Parred the next two and I found myself 1 up all of a sudden. Silly 3-putt on the 4th after hitting the green with 3 wood, but won the 6th to go 2 up with 3 to play, then a bogey won me the 7th and brought a 3 & 2 victory.

Went bogey, par on the two par 5s to finish - for a final score of 78! That's the first time I've broken 80 at my home course in over two years. 40 points on the board, card has gone in so I should be getting cut to around 15.3. 16.9 to 15.3 in two rounds, don't we just love WHS? 😄

Were you playing individual stroke play or singles match play? ;)

I don't really understand what you're saying. We're not particularly generous with gimmes anyway so we just tap them in. Everything was holed out on my score today. 🤷🏻‍♂️
See this discussion (or argument) :)

First ever medal today, proper baptism of fire

Brutal winds off the 7200 back tees

Posted My worst ever score but tbh I was delighted that I plugged on

Scored a 9 on the 4th after taking a drop and losing a ball

A solid bogey on the si1 I thought right that's gonna kick me off.. smashed the next drive 210 into wind.. ended up greenside bunker and couldn't get out lol 🤣

A 5 off tee on 12 summed up the day

But then 14-18 I played some solid golf

15 I managed a respectable bogey on the 635 par 5

17 got a lovely par

18 I almost chipped in for par aswell

So plenty to build on

Got a score to beat on my next medal aswell

So results are in and 32 points has won the comp. Only 70 brave souls in it and I witnessed at least 8 people walk off.

Looks like best gross was the club champ who is +3 and he shot 82 so I’m actually delighted with my score now.

What’s the max PCC? 😂

I think if I hadn't finished strongly I'd be annoyed but played well on the last 5 holes

Even pulled out the driving iron on the hole I imagined using it on and it worked out

Fiar play to you but I can't think of many things in golf more soul destroying than playing a Medal on a 7200 yard course...... 😲
