Medal today, completely fluffed my tee shot on the first and had to reload.

Played really well after that, had at least 5 really good birdie chances that I just couldn't convert. Unfortunately there was a period in the middle where I went double, quad, double but ended up net +1. Golf!

Game is feeling really, really good right now.

Funny thing though, our comps go out as 3 balls, the group before was a 2 and one of our group had to retire after the first with suspected kidney stones, so we played as a 4 ball to save us all standing around like plonkers. There's been text messages going around with the other members saying we should be disqualified 😂😂😂 I mean, really, have people got nothing better to do.

I beat my eighth best score by one shot and I got a 2. That's five 2s in 8 comps this year. I keep putting for dough, which I'm told is wrong.

18th hole hit a 42° iron second shot that finished one inch from the hole. Great way to cut 0.1 off the HI. :)

Monthly Stableford this morning, paired with my opponent in the matchplay last 16 to get that out of the way too. No shots given or taken, which was nice.
A dreadful start, as is now my standard. Blob, blob, 2 down after 2.
Eventually won on the first extra hole and probably scored 36 or 37 in the comp. If I ever manage to start like I finish I'll be in danger of looking like a golfer.
Treated to a fly-by of 3 Chinooks and a Puma, presumably on their way back from Trooping the Colour and C3's birthday.

Club Champs First round - 3&2 LOSS.

Played the first round of the club champ knock outs this morning. My opponent won 3&2.

This guy was supposedly an 18.4 index (I'm 17.4 at present and was the lowest index in my class) and he was roughly 5 over thru 14 holes. He absolutely bombed it off the tee and never missed a putt. 18 index aye okay then :ROFLMAO:. Decided to look at his scores on the Scottish Golf app after. Discovered he's only submitted 5 cards since 2022 and 3 of them this year. There is no way in hell that he was an 18.4 index, I'd have said anywhere in the 8-11 range based on what I seen today. Maybe if he actually submitted cards his index would be where it should be and he would've been playing in the B class event instead. 🙄

Thing is, it's not like I played badly and just lost cos I had a shocker. I played very well. The holes I won, I made par and literally had to play perfectly. This guy was just far too good of a player. And I get it, even the worst golfer on the planet can have a day here and there and shoot the lights out but this was just such a blatantly obvious bandit. I can take losing to someone in and around my index no problem but I can't take losing to someone who should never be that index in the first place because they only submit 3 cards a year.

Sadly, if your club are in line with most and the only requirement to play in such events is that you have to have submitted three cards in the previous rolling twelve month period for handicap, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Whether we like it or not, your opponent has satisfied the entry criteria.

Every club has people like this. We certainly do. We have a group of four who play the minimum number of comps each year, and enter every team event. They have won four of the last five, and were disqualified in the fifth. Unless the committee change the entry criteria we are stuck with it.

The only caveat I will put on that is that the entry list for team comps is really starting to dwindle - only sixteen teams in the last one - with those not playing citing the fact they have absolutely no chance of winning as their reasons for steering well clear. If that trend continues I suspect we may see some sort of intervention.

First round of the club championships today. As is traditional, they had the greens cut down and running very fast. I three-putted ten times. Ten times. Shot 95 gross so nett 81. I only had one triple as well, the rest was just endless double bogeys - nine of them. I got two pars and they were on stroke index 1 and 2 - how does that work out? 44 putts in all. I just cannot believe it. That's an absolutely insane number of putts.

Ironically the TaylorMade Spider I ordered has just arrived so might as well chuck that in for tomorrow's round - which I'm still going to turn up for, not really sure why. It won't make any difference anyway - it just means I'm not bothered about practising with it first.

Club championship weekend, 2 cups (low handicap, mid to high handicap), top 16 from each category go through to tomorrow.

+7 (+4 nett) after 3 holes. Pulled myself together, played some good golf, missed some getable putts, couple of very unlucky bounces, but stood on the 17th tee level to my handicap, thinking 1 or 2 over should get me through to tomorrow. Hit perfect drives on both. Double bogeyed both. Bloody game.

Need the lie in tomorrow anyway, and it is Father’s Day!

Good day today. Could have been a great day but I'll take good. Stableford, 36 points, my best score off whites at my club.

Drove really well, until the 16th and 17th (choked like a muppet 🙄), chipped tidily. Putting was reliable but left 4-5 putts within 2" of the hole, online but short. Greens were oddly slow today and worryingly patchy.

A couple of mare holes from nowhere were very disappointing but they were fewer than in previous weeks so that is progress.

Highlight of the day, a two on our 9th hole. This was just after my only no score of the day so mentally good to get. A really lovely 3 wood, pin high to about 2.5 feet. Potentially slippy putt but I hit it firmly and took out the break. Very happy with that.

28 points today off 10. I couldn't really hit anything and found myself struggling to get out of my head. Finished par, par, bogey, par which was nice, but my god the rest was unbelievably forgettable.
Onwards and upwards I guess... or hope!

Gross 83 - nett 68 for me today in a board comp.

Score diff 14.7

Middle of the pack in Div 1.

If I could hit my driver again, I’d be playing some pretty decent golf 😂

As a former member at Worsley but having played Ellesmere a number of times I think I disagree as I always found Worsley a little tighter and required a little more strategy.
funny isnt it, maybe it is the difference between men's and women's golf? for me I have to think round Ellesmere, consider the lay ups and caries over the ditches, at Worsley I feel a lot freer with my shots, I had my first ever sub 80 round at Worsley and went round in 80 on friday, not bad out of less than a dozen rounds, I have had only a handful of 80 or better round Ellesmere in a a few hundred rounds.

Went out on Friday night to try and rectify the Thursday night shocker for the last 4 holes....

Started off with a nice par on the 1st in to a tough breeze, then duffed my tee shot on the 2nd and thought here we go again :ROFLMAO:
Played some excellent stuff for the remaining 7 holes, finished 3 over after a 5 on the par 3 2nd.
Was playing 2 balls as well off the tee and my Driving was excellent, was really getting through them, was just shy of 2 greens on the 3rd and 7th.
Iron striking excellent as well, My lag putting with the New Scotty Cameron was good but I'm not quite there confidence wise with the smaller putts.
Hit a lovely second on to the 9th with a crowd gathered on the balcony, was a society day
Incidentally I had my Air pods in and was listening to Bob Rotella on the way round, really seemed to help me, no swing thoughts, just focus on the target and trust the rest.

Yesterday was the first of our two big strokeplay comps - Paddon Cup, 36 holes in the day, played off handicap.(Club championship -36 holes off scratch comes in about a month. Played atrociously - was getting most drives away, but everything else was terrible. Couldn't get irons near the green, couldn't get chips anywhere close, and three putted most greens. Was third from last after first round. Ah, well, at least the second round couldn't be worse. Except it was. The worst bit was it was all my fault - couldn't blame conditions, or the course. Just hit terrible shots all day. (A measure of it is that I lost only one ball all day - and that was because the provisional was in such a good position, I decided not to look for the original). But all things have a silver lining - I still wasn't last after round two.

(And for info a 6hc won it, 15hc second & +1hc was third)

Played yesterday and my recent poor form has continued with me now adding putting to the list. When you can't get off the tee and can't hole out it's not a great combination.

Driving was slightly better, no lost balls but 2 drives I had no option but to chip out sideways. All the other drives at least left me a shot to the green. The main issue was my putting, I had 5 3 putts and not from distance either. 3 putted the first from 15 foot for bogey, 3 putted the second from 18 foot for bogey, 3 putted the thirteenth from 10 feet for bogey. I missed 5 putts from 3 foot and in, either pulling or pushing them, all 5 didn't even touch any part of the hole. Really frustrating day as I hit my irons well, gave myself numerous good birdie chances as the greens were a bit more receptive and even with the terrible putting I still had 3 birdies.

My putting was that bad that I lost 1.75 strokes to a 25 handicap according to Shot Scope.

Gross 81 for 40 points in the roll up this morning. (Score diff 12.9)

They let anyone who were father and son play together too so a great 18 holes in the warm sun with the old man whacking a ball around a field. 36 points for him - after a very bad start 😂

I love this game.

5 over thru 6 today and finished 2 over.

Finally drove the green on our 7th. Kick started my round with a 2 putt bird. Birdie on 11 then drove it to the front of the green on 12 which resulted in another bird. Bogey on 13, another bird on par 5 14th then par in for 41 points and 2 over. Delighted.

Had a number of putts come up short in the jaws today. Could have been a seriously low score. Greens were a tad slow and I couldn't adjust and didn't get a practice putt before hand.

Played in a stableford at my club yesterday, first game in 2 weeks due to a holiday and it turns out I didn't forget how to play completely. Apart from 1 absolute disaster and a couple of bad holes I played quite well for 33 points. Can't be too annoyed at that.
