Yeah its my best round, previous best was a 76, with all but 1 of my counters being sub 80. Its our CR (66) which makes it tricky as you just cant make mistakes if you want to get low. Last nights 72, came down to a 71 because of the triple, but still only a score differential of 4.6.
By God there's a Golfer in there somewhere....;)
Good going Chap (y)

Friendly knock with a couple of mates. Beautiful morning, the course, whilst exceptionally tough, just gets better and better under our new head greenkeeper, and great company.

Struck the ball really well, didn’t score great, but really enjoying the challenge we are now being presented where in years gone by I found it too much.

Third qualifier in 3 days today, this time in a Lancashire Ladies tournament at Worsley golf club, I played well, didn't make too many mistakes and finished with a gross 80 nett 70, I would have been delighted with that score before I set out although after a 3 putt on 17 and missing a 3 footer on the last I felt a little deflated but still very pleased.
So after going up 1.6 in 2 days it looks like i will be coming down by around .8 after today, WHS certainly making my handicap volatile at the moment.

Worsley is only about 3 miles from Ellesmere and is in most peoples opinion a far easier course our CR is a over a shot less than par, Worsley is over a shot above par, it also has a higher slope, very strange.

Played a Texas scramble at Bellingham today, roasting hot and I was totally knackered after but I really enjoyed it. Didn’t play my best but I rolled in a couple of birdie putts on 17 and 18 so we finished-2. Obviously no where near the prizes 🤣

Birdie on 18 😳. I'm not having that. Do you have video evidence? It's a golfing impossibility.

Has everything recovered after the flooding?

Played in a race to the master scramble today at Aspley Guise - course is close to being a dust bowl and was firm. We were 9 under gross to end up with 56.8 after HC was taken off , missed far too many birdie chances

It was a shotgun start, we started in 3 🤣🤣🤣
Parred 18 (birdie putt lipped out) and then birdied 2 and 3 which were our 17 and 18 😉
It has recovered really well, you couldn’t tell they’d had an issue 👌

If you had birdied the 18th itself then they would have put a plaque there for you 😄.

Good to hear it's recovered, it's a smashing club.

4bbb with my work lot, due to last minute cancellation I played by myself.

My society handicap is 12 and I played quite beautifully for a blob free 37 points. Greens were slow so was quite hard putting, having to really hit putts rather than roll them.

Ended up putting a card in and the funny thing is, with my current index my course handicap was actually 17. I'm sure the slope at Leighton Buzzard is wrong because there's so many courses I play at where I get extra shots but they're so much easier than LB.

Medal in the morning, going to keep it simple and see if I can replicate some of the good stuff from today.

We were at South Moor today, an excellent, Alister McKenzie designed course. Superb greens and lovely weather. It's a strange place though, there seldom seems to be anyone playing despite it being considered one of the best venues in the county. A couple of duffs stopped me going low (shot 85). Putted really well, what a difference nicely manicured (green!) greens and fringes make. Bizarrely came across 6 golf balls left on one hole!

Some of the holes near the clubhouse are a bit meh but the ones further out are really nice. I’ve heard they are struggling and lost a lot of members recently.

Played a vets league match today at home against local rivals. Our club won 3.5 to 2.5, I played with a partner who I had played football with some 50+ years ago and have never partnered in a club match. We won our match 3 and 1 and as we shook hands our opponents told us that this was only the second time they'd been beaten in two and a half years in any match. 😋😋

Played Dartmouth yesterday in a society day. The fairways and tees were like concrete. Almost impossible to poke a tee into the ground. The greens were dead slow and nearly every putt was left short. And the bunkers there are just awful, more like gravel pits.

Having been knocked out first round of all the matchplay comps I entered last year I wasn't too optimistic going into the first of the two I entered this year, seniors betterball.

Shots were 14 and 12 for oppos and 3 for me.

We halved the first two but won the third to go one up. My shot hole on the front nine is the fourth and I was close in 4 looking like a net par but one of the oppos rolled in a long putt for net birdie, all square.

I made a poor three putt on the next and lost the hole to a net par. (My putting was iffy all day, luckily I had a spare putter in the bag so switched on the next hole and was slightly better thereon).

After 16 we were 2 down but my partner made two good pars and they messed up so we went back down the 1st. They had shots on the first two holes so we were just trying to halve them and get to the par 5 third with no shots.
I parred the first and they holed an 8 footer to halve but then they made par net birdie on the 2nd to put us out. A good match but boy it was slow in front of us as we were behind a society, about 5 hours.

Oh well, first match in the singles next week, must do better!

As a former member at Worsley but having played Ellesmere a number of times I think I disagree as I always found Worsley a little tighter and required a little more strategy.

In a proper rut with my golf at the moment. Unable to keep driver on the course and a 3 way miss makes it impossible to play for. Especially as this year the club have grown the rough right out especially to stop the bigger hitters.

With that in mind I went out this morning and tried to be a bit smarter and used my hybrid off the tee a lot more, hoping that my increased distance and accuracy with my irons recently would mean it didn't have as big an impact.

Worked well in the main - 33 points and 3 birdies on the back nine, including the 460 yard par 4 18th. The holes I did use driver on cost me though, one lost ball, one topped into a dyke and another duck hook which left me 210 yards in to a pin behind a bunker.

With 4 of my next 6 being counters though I reckon I'll plateau out at about 14 HI, having been at 10.1 this time last year.
