I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played yesterday in the last major medal of the season. Two comps in one. Nett and gross. With a field of 80 I was never going to win the nett but came third in the gross with a 2 over 72. Winner was -1. But for a 3 putt and two OOBs what could have been. One of the OOBs was on the last where I made a double bogey🤬 A tiny 0.2 cut gets me back to where I started the season.

That is seriously impressive in her second round ever. Heartiest congratulations to Mrs M.
I’ve told her that but she was frustrated with double bogeys ! She’s a very competitive sod, has good coordination though always played sports since she was a kid and still plays high level netball and used to compete in Slalom race skiing. But once I managed to convince her how good he score is she was very happy and is treating me to a coffee date breakfast today 😊

Managed to get out for the second day running, because we're on holiday all next week. Ended up having a round I'll remember for a while.

Had an early start again, and I blobbed the first two holes with a comedy of errors. I need to sack off these early starts, I can't do anything worthwhile before 8am it seems. Then I birdie our par 3 3rd with a 20 foot putt - first birdie of the day. After six holes I had a full set - triple, blob, birdie, double, bogey, par. Solid par on the par 5 8th, then on the par 5 9th, I put my third shot to about two feet with AW - second birdie of the day. This brings us back to all square in the friendly betterball match we were having as well, a great ding dong match with both sides going 1 up and being pegged back a few times.

Continue playing well on the back nine - on the 13th my drive has crept a bit right so I have to fire one under tree branches and up to the green. I hit a gripped down 9i with a Fleetwood finish that I worked on at the range on Thursday - it goes straight at the flag and must have missed the hole by inches, ends up one foot behind it. Third birdie of the day. One up in the match and we win the par 3 14th to go 2 up, but give it straight back on the 15th when I miss a two foot putt.

17th hole we're still 1 up, they hit the green and I just about find the left fringe. I then sink another 20 footer from there, for my fourth birdie of the day, and to win the match 2 & 1. Then I finish up with a double (blob) on my nemesis hole the 18th to book-end the round with crap blobs. 79 gross, and just the 35 points despite four birdies. 😂

Funny old game.

Decent mornings golf, 3putt bogey on 9 was my only dropped shot of the front 9, I had another couple of bogies on 12 & 14 after putting myself in bad spots, double on 15 after slipping on some roots and hitting it in the only bunker with sand, so much sand it was sat right down. Missed a short birdie putt on 17 after a cracking wedge shot to 2ft, but birdie on 18. +4 gross, should have been lower!

1st round of the winter league today (I’m sorry, but winter can just hang on a minute - I am not ready…)

Thankfully, apart from the yellow tees and a few muddy balls it felt much more like a cool summers day - betterball format, I was paired up with my son in law Jack who is in his first year of membership. He was needed on 3 of the 13 holes as we brought back a respectable 31 points.

I've not played a lot of golf with the youth this year, as he grows up, he moves on - but we both really enjoyed it today .

Scratch KO final today

36 holes

All square after 18 , both of us 2 under par

Stopped for a bit of lunch and my back seized up 😢

Then lost the first 4 holes on the second 18 as I couldn’t swing 😫

Managed to ease and get it back to 2 down but lost on the 17th
Sounds like you played some pretty decent golf, which is always a pleasure even if you don't win.
Well done.

Nice swing from the young lad !

Nice swing from the young lad !

Thnak you. He's been struggling with his swing for a few weeks - he tends to let his hands drop back at the top and then gets stuck coming down giving him a swing path that is too far right, and shots that pull left - especially with the driver. I think he sometimes goes down rabbit holes trying to figure out what's going wrong - something we can all be guilty of. He has a drill from his coach to work on that swing fault so I suggested he tried it at his next range session - from that moment he seemed to have that thought in his head and hit everything pretty straight. He parred everything from 9 to 17 barring a bogey on 15 so he was pretty happy by the time we walked off the 18th.

Day off knockabout round this afternoon with two pals.
Had a go with the £85 Temu L.A.B knock-off putter that one of them bought last week for a laugh.
Anecdotally, it seems just as good as the genuine article that another pal paid £400+ for. The headcover is possibly better.

Played a couple of solo 9s this week, trying to ease my foot back into it..
Lasted 7 holes yesterday before I started feeling the heel and came in, got round the 9 today with little pain except...
Getting out of the car at home...JHC that was hard for a minute.....it eased up fairly soon but oof.....
May go again tomorrow if the heel permits..
Striking the ball decently..it's just getting between the shots that's the problem....

13 hole comp at Manchester GC for me today, I scored 19 points on the front nine despite missing 3 putts inside 3 feet, I hit the ball really well, remaining holes not so good, partly due to getting cold due to standing around waiting to play. I seem to playing my best golf of the year right at the end of the season

We played Doncaster yesterday. Both of us were shocking. Drove it well, apart from unexplained duff left on the first tee. No real excuses. Course was good. Had a links feel to it, but wasn't. Greens were fast for October. Fairways dry as a bone. Not a difficult course but incredibly well placed bunkers. I ended up in six. My chipping was woeful, left everything short. Pro was a cheerful chappie. Oh and the car park was smashing.

Did the pro have his dog with him?

Jamie played there in the Yorkshire boys under 16’s - got a respectable 8th place. He loved it.

I've seen a few YouTube videos on them and nearly everyone has said they can't notice/feel a difference from the real thing. I guess the knockoffs have improved, I remember I bought a Scottie Cameron knockoff back in 2016 and when it came it looked like the real deal but it weighed about a quarter of a real one. Any hit off centre went nowhere, was complete garbage. Paid £45 for it and one of the lads in the golf society bought it from me for £20 even with me telling him it was garbage but he didn't seem to care.

Went to the range instead of playing with the intention of sorting my driving out. Was a terrible idea for 75 balls and soon as I swung anything longer than an 8 iron the pain in my shoulder was awful. Couldn’t complete a backswing and couldn’t generate power or consistency. Should’ve walked away but instead spent the whole time hitting chippy wedges and 9 irons so as to not waste a bucket of balls! I think a prolonged rest is coming which is annoying as I’ve been scoring well recently and Mrs M is enjoying our games together

Shoulder is a very complicated joint
You need to be careful.
Lest it heal.

Oh I know had my left rotator cuff repaired about 9 years ago. This feels different though, got physio Wednesday and scans booked in! I’m hoping it’s not the RC again or bicep tendon where it inserts to chest as that could put me out a long time and need surgery. The knock on effects for work and more importantly golfing will be terrible for a few months of it is that! So fingers and toes are crossed it’s something minor 🤞
