Over the last 12 months, my game has been blighted by severe inconsistancy. Dispersion has been terrible and my ball striking has been erratic at best. Following on from a video that was posted on here last week (I think), I decided to try something different today. Strangely enough, I decided to hum a tune during the strike. I also kept my teeth apart. This enabled me to stay relaxed through the swing and avoid any tension build up.

What can I say, other than WOW..... I only played 6 holes but I hit 4 FIR and 5 GIR. Level Par with a couple of decent Birdie chances. I lost about 10 yards of carry (7 iron about 155 rather than 165), but the accuracy and ball striking were much MUCH improved.

Obviously I may look like a complete berk while humming the theme tune from Game of Thrones (today's tune of choice), but I don't care. I'm a hummer and proud of it!!!!!

Is humming a song making you play better or does it just stop you from over analysing your swing and help you play your shot?
The pros are always talking about having as few swing thoughts as possible.

It stops me tensing up and trying to knock the skin off the ball. It also stops me thinking too technically during the backswing. The teeth thing also helps to stop tension build up. It's hard to force anything physically with the teeth kept apart and humming a little tune.

I always fast-forward the theme tune... best start listening to it, if it'll get me playing better golf! ;)

Sorry, not knocking it, Bluewolf. I may try it with a tune I know, as I reckon I get a proper grimace on at times!

I tried it as a direct reaction to an injury I picked up earlier in the week. I damaged my elbow during a round and looking back, the reason for this damage was that I was trying to smash the ball rather than swing through it. Now it feels like the ball just gets in the way. I'm relaxed throughout the entire swing.

I occasionally do the teeth apart one, with my tongue between the front teeth. The tip was that if I tried to knock the cover off the ball I'd tense my jaw, bite my tongue, and it would hurt. A lot.

Drew blood a couple of times, but it does tend to work most of the time.
