hi everyone, i am still fairly new to the game and handicap is around 23.

i was thinking about my scoring and what an average round consisted off. Going over the last few cards, i reckon my averages to be the following:

pars 5

bogeys 5

doubles
or worse 8

I guess i am pretty inconsistent at the minute, and can i read anything else from this?

Also how does this compare to others around the same ability?
thanks

depends from week to week. Just recently, I have been throwing a couple of trebles in per round which is killing me but usually I'm pretty steady with mostly pars and bogeys with the odd double chucked in.

you need to look at how you made the high scores and either change your shot selection or practice what is getting you in trouble.

This weekend I had 3 birdies and 3 triples on the same card. 2 missed eagle putts :( ****ing game.

When I stay out of trouble off the tee I score well, when I get into trouble big scores can and do rack up. Most important part of the game to scoring for me at the moment is my tee game, there is a definite correlation between drive well and score well for me. Assuming I'm not putting like a chimp.

Depends how bad I am that day in particular! Had recent rounds like this weekend with 3 birdies & 10 pars and failed to shoot my handicap! Shows how bad the other 5 holes were on the day!

Other days I couldn't hit a barn door and walk off with handicap or better.. It just depends on the day really, I need to find consistency.

The fact that you're getting 5 pars per round is encouraging. It shows that you can score.

Just think where you'd be if you could change those doubles (or worse) into bogeys.

Unfortunately I seem to be quite good at starting with 5 or more bogeys....
Then I'll throw in about 7 pars, maybe a birdie, then a whole load more bogeys or doubles and then par the last.....
Having said that, I played 9 this morning
1 x double
1 x bogey
2 birdies
5 pars

I'll average 12 pars in a round probably.

A couple of bogies also.

The other 4 holes will make/ break my score. At least 2birdies and avoid a double and its happy days - sadly that double appears far too regularly :(

Saturday, 13 pars & 5 bogies. I couldn't buy a birdie for love nor money. Several missed birdie putts from inside 10ft, inc a 3 putt par...

An average round for me usually has 10-12 pars. My score will depend on whether or not I take any birdie chances and being able to limit the bad holes to bogeys.

The weekend just gone...
Saturday 12 pars, 5 bogeys and a double.
Sunday 12 pars, 3 bogeys, 2 doubles and a birdie.

Usually 15 consistent holes and three big numbers usually from nowhere. I need to cut these out and a double at worse instead of an 8 and I will be hitting the buffer zone more often. I have a game plan for the club champs (1st round) on Saturday

Tonight was interesting.......4 birdies, 1 eagle and shot 5 over my handicap (6) but played well. Yesterday I shot 4 over and played poor but the ball kept dropping in the hole, got up and down for par at first 7 holes after poor ion shots - never had better than a par either.

Played today after work and ended up similar to yourself. Very inconsistent but it was mainly long irons and hybrids that let me down today.

5 pars, 7 bogeys, 4 doubles and 2 triples. Shot 91 total so bang on handicap. Only 32 putts (1 three putt) which for me is very good going.

Last round was 10 pars, 2 birdies, 5 bogeys and a double. Pretty inconsistent but I think golf is pretty inconsistent by nature, if our golf was consistent was we wouldn't enjoy it! Imagine 18 holes of the same, week in week out, talk about DULL!

I will take inconsistent golf over consistent golf any day!

Currently looking to go 45 out, 45 in... don't care about how I get there, so long as I do this or better.

Typically though, a round consists of a handful of 5-6 pars and the occasional birdie, with the remainder being bogies/doubles and the odd howler (triple +) thrown in.
