Had a poor round today, not going to blame the rain though. But seriously how wet is too wet? Around holes 4-6 it was torrential and had to take cover for about 10 minutes to get some kind of equalibrium in my soul. Which didn't work as I continued to drop shots as quickly as the clouds were dropping rain drops.

I wasn't a member so I didn't have the luxury of throwing away the round and walking off the course, but damn it was wet. Which meant I became more frustrated and ended up beating myself up for the rest of the round.

We experienced something similar back in March when the heavens opened on the 12th. All of our concentration levels dropped and focus turned to getting under cover, out of the wind and eventually back to the 18th. In a game where mental stability is so important any distraction - or any excuse you give yourself for underperforming - can be devastating.

Well I was performing poorly up till the rain really. Only the second time on this course, but my concentration was all over the place and the demons definitely crept in.

Didn't help that the lad I was playing with had a rag tag bag of random clubs and he was beating me, and letting me know how many shots back I was.

Thing is I'm not playing to compete with anyone other than myself, I've only been playing seriously for 12 months, kind of bugged me, add that the weather and I was chasing my tail for the rest of the round.

Played in the medal today, it rained persistently from the 1st tee to the 18th green, definitely wouldn't have played if it was a friendly. At the end of the round everything was soaked, I am useless at keeping stuff dry.

That said, I managed to get round in 82, net 71, exactly on my handicap, and although I can't say it was enjoyable, I did get satisfaction from knowing I was more or less All Square with the weather.

My handicap is 28 and I scored 116. I've decided to throw it away, mentally and statistically. I played yesterday and I was a bit tired, so I'm putting it down to experience, and moving on. Like I said, felt bugged that my mate kept reminding me and gloating a bit. Just was no need.

I paid £14 for the round so I wasn't going to waste the money, but maybe I should be planning to play my rounds when I know the weather is nice.

Wusses. Get yourselves a hat, some decent GGs and a wet weather glove. And a backbone. Rain is only wet because it's water. Some folk on here live in Scotland - how do you think they feel? :)

Seriously though, I don't mind. It makes you concentrate. I've played some of my best golf whilst getting soaked.

If it's raining on the first tee then it is too wet. I'm not going out in it. I play golf for pleasure. What pleasure does anyone get out of getting soaked? GG's or not. I do not go out in the rain, it is as recipe for .1 back.

It's too wet when you stop enjoying it.
It could be light drizzle or full-on monsoon but as soon as the enjoyment goes that's it.

What a tart !!!!

On a serious note of it's a shower or consistently light to medium I don't mind.

All weather trews
Thin tee shirt
Fj 1/2 sleeve waterproof
MacWets

CRACK ON!

Just club up and swing easy,

Ditto.

If I'm already out on the course I'll play on, unless its of monsoon proportions, otherwise I'll stay in the clubhouse.

Rain is fine unless it is absolutely pouring down- I'd feel bad for hacking the course to bits.

Heavy showers can be coped with- good waterproofs and a bag cover. A sealskinz waterproof hat is handy too.

I do, however, hate the wind AND rain simultaneously. Doesn't make for fun golf. One or t'other is fine.

I play my best golf in the rain although rain AND wind isn't conducive to good scoring. Played a match yesterday and was hoping for a postponement as it was constant rain. Out we went though and despite giving 10 and 14 shots we were 6 up after 10 and I was hitting pars (and 1 birdie) for fun. Makes me concentrate and perhaps expectations drop so I play better. Also like the softer conditions it creates. Pain to then get everything dry in time to start again today though!

Oh - and get some Macwets as no problems gripping the club then.

Don't start too many bounce games in the wet, although I do tend to play on unless it gets really bad since you never know when you'll be playing in something important in the rain.

However, if I sign up for a comp and it goes ahead I'm there regardless of the weather and so should anyone who has put their name down. Last year there was an over subscribed comp that I couldn't get an entry for. It rained (a little) and about four people played in the end; a disgrace.

I'll let you know tomorrow. Got knockout singles at 7.30 and looks like starting in monsoon conditions. New Golf Thinking though and he won't be up for it and I'm relishing the challenge. Well I say that now dry and warm ...

I must agree with this.

Plus it'd make my hair all frizzy ;)

Rain is a condition of play not a condition that determines play

Edit: but if its peeing down come Sunday and they wont let me have a buggy then count me out :p

As soon as it is raining for a competition....I know I have gained a shot or 3 on the majority of the rest of the field, as everyone grumbles. It's not going to hurt, it's only water. Keep your gloves and towel dry under a brolly and away you go!
