have a comp tomorrow and after some recent lessons my irons are the best they have ever been but still getting used to the swing change using the longer club resulting in some beauties and some terrible ones.
any suggestions on how I should approach the round tomorrow?

thanks

Not exactly an expert like but simply 'free your mind'. You've already pulled ya first tee shot with it by writing this I reckon.

I'd say where the fairway offers forgiveness, get it out and play it. If the 3w will still leave you with a good go at the green then do what you're most at ease with on the tee, just don't let it fester. And if you have a few Par 4's sub 380 and ya hitting ya irons well then 4i off the tee and 5 or 6 to green? Presuming its your home course then you know when and where you can pull the woods out of the bag.

Good luck!

Leave the driver in the car!
Even if your not hitting the other woods well the driver will be the one to bite back the most. I haven't played with my driver for about 2 months, not because it was misbehaving, although it was, but because the ground has been so hard a 3 wood has been more than enough.
It's better to be on the short stuff 20 yards back from your driver than OOB or in the trees. Play the clubs you have the most confidence in and you'll do well.

Play well and good luck.
