• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

How often is too often for you?

When I lived in Norway I think I played every day for 6 months. Didn’t help my game 🤣

I played 72 holes carrying in one day last year. That was a struggle, but not until the day after actually.

If I could I would probably play almost every day. Unfortunately, I have to work this boring 9-5 job to be able to pay the rent, and to pay for my golf as well, obviously.

Wish I could play 5 days in a row but the wife would moan the house isn’t tidy I work shifts 4 on 6 off but only play twice on my days off. Have young children and getting them from school is a pain when it’s slow on the course

Did five days in Northumberland. On the fifth day we played Ripon. It was a course to far. We were all irritable and quite frankly all arsed off 3 days is long enough.

Occasionally play two days in a row, never tried anymore than that. I don't think I'd want to play three days in a row even, my feet would be aching and I'm sure my shoulders would be stiff. I could happily play every other day if I had the money and time though, just not every day without a break.

My mate played Sat & Sunday last weekend, then Tuesday and again with me on Wednesday - by the last three holes of that one he could barely swing a club. And he's only 29. I did point out to him that pros play four days in a row well into their 40s and 50s and I think we both had a new respect for them.

Have done four rounds in a day for McMillans as well as regular doing 6 rounds in 3 days around shift work

12 days consecutive is longest run of days.

5 days in a row is probably the max for me, I usually don't play Sunday or Monday. I once tried to do 18 holes in the morning and 18 in the afternoon, ran out of steam after the front 9 in the afternoon.

I’ve never played more than 2 days in the bounce.
Between work & family stuff I don’t know how people manage to play so much.

When I was much much younger I played 26 full rounds of 18 holes in 14 days. We were staying at Sabi River Bungalows for 2 weeks which has a very nice course. Don’t ever remember being tired or bored of playing.

Fast forward to last year where Glyn and I played 7 rounds over 4 days (separated by a weekend) and I was in bits 😳😳

I seem to remember somebody posting on here once about doing the longest day challenge for charity, teed off about 3 in the morning with a car headlight or something and then manageing something crazy like 12 rounds.

I would add that when I played five rounds in five days on the Turnberry trip last year, I did carry for all the rounds. The golf was not too tiring, but the driving from Surrey to Scotland was a killer for my back.

For me it is not physical with playing every day, it is just I get bored with playing that much golf. Has to be top courses, but when it becomes a chore I’m out.

Age really is a bar steward mate.

I also find firm, baked links turf is more punishing on my feet than lush parkland.

I did the longest day teeing off around 4.30 (probably still too dark to really see properly). Who remembers being a junior and while not managing 12 rounds, we'd play 54 holes, certainly 36 every day and never get bored. Add in a few hours mucking about chipping and putting in between and we were on our feet almost non-stop and we never felt a thing or worried about it

When I was made redundant about 12 years ago I was up the club every day. I usually played but sometimes would just do nine and then practice. To be honest I was like a pig in muck and had the money not started to run out I'd have carried on. I have no idea how many consecutive days it was (a lot) and I never got bored of it

I am being made redundant in mid-July, and I dread to think how much golf I will be playing :D I won't need to get a job for probably an entire year, but ideally I'll start earning money and keeping myself busy from September onwards.

I did go on a golf holiday 18 months ago in Palm Springs and we played 6 rounds in 6 days. Towards the end of the trip, I was starting to get tired and was sort of happy to get home. I think a rest day in the middle would have made things more enjoyable.

We have a guy at my club who left his job about 14 months ago now. He had a payoff but had also saved considerably and is in the enviable position of not having to work at this moment in time. He's been playing most days in that 14 months and has already said he plans to take 2019 off work to simply play golf (no aspirations to be much lower than his 12 handicap but to just play). Fair play to him although I'm not sure as a prospective employer how I'd view a two year gap on a CV and got the reply "playing golf" when asked what he did. I have mentioned it but he seems comfortable with everything.

When I was made redundant I did put the work in most mornings chasing leads and applying for roles and would then go to play/practice in the afternoon. As I was usually alone I'd the phone with me to answer and calls from agencies. Enjoy the time off, hope you find something fantastic when you do find a new role and hope your golf improves

If I go away I'll play six days on the bounce.
None of us find it a problem, we're all past 60yrs old now and my brother and I still carry.
The knees may get a bit sore but nothing a couple of cold beers doesn't fix.
I'd play every day if the sky is blue, the course is green and the banter is flowing.

Reminds me of a GP I used to golf with his mantra was "there's nothing 2 dozen Beck's won't cure".

😂

I played Rosemount today in a gale and am playing Dunbar on Tuesday and Rosemount again on Wednesday. Half an hour ago I got a phone call asking if I could play Carnoustie In the morning. I am too much of a gent to refuse!
