On average, on how many holes do you guys (and girls) use a driver on an 18 hole course?

As a rule of thumb, what yardage would you choose to use a driver, and when would you decide not too?

Just curious, as I have not long started out, and have steered clear from my fairway wood and driver recently, and been using a 3 hybrid 19* off the tee. It has been fairing me relatively well, but I now want to up my game! :)

At my place, off the White tees, I could hit driver 11 times on 18 holes...

It does really generally depend on the course. For example on Friday morning I played with a mate at Worplesdon, where I hit driver on 1,2,3,5,6,8,9,11,12,14,15,17,18. So 13 times. At home on Sat I used it on 1,2,4,10,13,16...6 times and really didnt need it on 16 but its open and gives me a short wedge in.

It is a combination between length of hole and how tight the driving area is.

I am probably rare in that i dont carry a driver in my bag. Always struggled with them. Tried suing one last winter but could not get any consistency. 5 wood is the lowest loft club i use.

On all par fours and fives. I'm the opposite to you my dispersion with my driver is much less than with a fairway wood. Hence that i now don't even bother carrying one.

Wyboston Lakes is where I consider my home course and I use driver on all the holes bar 1st 3rd 5th 6th 7th 12th 13th 15th. So 11 holes out of the 18. If I am hitting it pretty well then I will use it on the 12th and go risk/reward over water.

13 at my place but there are about 3 holes where I often hit a hybrid instead, it just depends where the tee markers are and whether I'm hitting the driver well as ours is very tree lined with accuracy at a premium

and at what yardarge do you guys feel using a driver is the right call? Again, generally speaking....

Generally speaking it depends on whether I feel I need a driver to get home in 2 and the tightness of the course. E.G. the 13th at Puttenham is 400 and plenty yds long but I generally hit 3 wood because the fairway is narrow and the second is downhill and its not too tight an area to hit with a long iron/rescue. I often hit a driver up the 16th because the landing area is generous and it leaves me a wedge at most.

12/18. Ruling out par 3's, there are two dogleg holes that mean driver is too long at our spo. Otherwise, always driver, ATTACK!

Round my own place there are 3 holes I always use driver on, and another 6 that I sometimes do depending on the wind, what the format is, and how well I'm playing.
I'd guess average is 5 or 6.

As for yardage, it depends more for me on the features of the hole than how far it is. For example, we have a 456yd par 4 that I usually hit 3w on because it's important to hit the fairway, and holes at 310yds and 350yds that I quite often use my driver because an offline one will be past the worst of the trouble.

I don't mind playing approaches from the first or second cut if I can see the green, but if there's a risk of having no shot to the green I'd rather have a longer shot in. I hope that makes sense!
