How often do you use a driver?

9 to 11 times. All par 4s and 5s except:

6th, shortish par 4, 220 or 230 tee shot perfect for nice wedge in, may use driver if wind against

7th, longish par 4, but needs draw off tee, and easier to do that with 3 wood

8th, short par 4, 4 iron perfect off tee

13th, shortish par 4, driver too much and can end up in ditch

17th, short par 4, sometimes use driver if flag on right side and conditions dry for a bit of run, otherwise 4 iron to wedge distance.

6 or 7 times on average this season, but it was very dry and the 3 wood went plenty far enough (especially downwind).

I use my driver if it won't reach hazards, or if I'm trying to fly hazards. Otherwise I select the club to be safe.

There are 4 par 4's at our course where I would not use driver. Two are relatively short, around 250yds, but narrow so I would take a 7 iron or rescue club depending on how I am feeling. That then sets me up with a PW/9 iron into the green. There are two other par 4's, between 310-350yds, where I would use my rescue club due to a tight fairway and straightness being the priority. If I hit it right, about 175-185yds for me, then the second shot in is still okay so the loss of distance is not an issue. I don't have an ego with my driver, being in play is more important than distance.

If I have a driver meltdown, Saturday just gone, then I will go to rescue whatever the distance as 180yds on the fairway is better than 3 off the tee. If I then proceed to have a rescue meltdown, same round arrggghhhh, I get depressed, go back to my driver and hope like hell I can resolve the initial driver issues.

Without a doubt yes, and that usually comes out 5 times per round. The rest of the tee shots are hybrid or iron. Every tee shot is with position rather than distance in mind.
Sounds like someone that doesn't hit a driver straight. ;)

I can think of plenty of holes where an extra 20 yards would be great from the tee, but I might hit 3w to ensure a wayward driver doesn't but me in the wrong position.

As a nomadic golfer, it varies from which course I'm playing on, and mainly on the conditions;

Is the fairway narrow or tight
Wheres the dangers/hazards
Am I on a links or parkland course - wind
Do I need to play aggressively or keep the pressure - my go to club is my 8 iron, which goes around 152yards and on a par 4 320 that's roughly two 8 irons.

Holes 1/4/6/8/9/10/12/13/15/17 always driver 18 if I'm trying for the green

Edit sometimes 17 is a 3wood depends if the tees are fwd or back

Tbh that is true, but I am not sure how differently I would play Sand Moor if I did. A decent 3 wood will go ~250yrds and there are only maybe 3 or 4 other holes where is would be worthwhile, and 2 of those don't suit my gentle fade.

holes 1/5/9/13/17/18 always (well almost)
on 2/3/11/15 occasionally depending on wind and which tees i am playing off
4/8/9/12 always 3wood

on very rare occasions we're using the lady's tees on 12 to entice the players to go for the green. the green is certainly out-of-reach for me but with the driver i am capable of clearing the hollow giving me a much easier and shorter approach into the green so i go for it

None at the moment, much more confident with 3w.
I'm planning on having a lesson with driver.

I slowed my backswing down massively and just really took my time and it made a huge difference. Almost like a very slow wind up making sure I am in the right position, before a rhythmic downswing....

Will take it when I feel it's needed - no set nunber tbh

I know I swing too fast with driver, for some reason I try & nail it when I've got driver in my hand

Both courses it is normally used 12/13 times off the back tees.

Depends on how long you are too as some people need it on one of the par threes

Too many variables to have a hard and fast number even on my own course. At the moment 12/18 but when it's dry and running I'll take 3 wood on several holes as we have ditches well in reach. It also depends on how well I'm driving on the day

11 - 13/18 on my home track depending on conditions I might take hybrid on our 8th and 9th.

Last round I played was County Sligo. I used it 14/18. The remaining 4 were par 3s.
