No idea of the amount as it was 37 years ago.

But, if I remember correctly, it was equivalent to two years subscription, all paid up front.

I’m just about to join a new club due to moving house so been looking around and trying them all out. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 clubs. Two have joining fees, one at £250, one at £200 and the other nothing. The one with no joining fee is slightly ahead at the moment but not purely for that reason but it’s always there in the thought process when I’m trying to work out which one.

This just proves there’s still plenty of money in the sport and if you want quality we are prepared to pay for it.
But £1265 plus the same in green fees is a lot for some working people and must put some off.

I paid about £650 at 29, which is 25% of the full joining fee. I got in just before I was 30, at which point it went up to 50%.

I think the full joining fee is 1.5x annual membership, it can be paid over 5 years.

We're basically full, so keeping a joining fee made sense and has allowed significant a significant course improvement plan to be implemented.
