How much can you take?

Anyone that drives to the pub/club and intends to drive home after a couple pints is a danger irrespective of age...
I fully agree, but I see more older gents having a couple before driving home than I do younger lads.
As surprisingly as it sounds, it is the younger lads that are more likely to abstain from all alcohol if they're getting behind the wheel.....and I applaud them for being so. Just to be clear though, I am in no way saying its all older gents that are like this, just as its not all younger lads like that either.

I have had issues with alcohol and so I have to be more careful these days. I do have the odd blow out but these are nowhere near as big as the old days and if I do I refrain from a period of time now. Even at the club I am more controlled.

Reading this thread is making me thirsty!!

I love a drink! 😉😂🍺🍺🍺

indeed - it is one of a number of scenario. Please don't pick holes where serious concerns are being expressed. The guy who drinks this much is some days going to be well over the limit the next day - and in that he poses a risk to public safety were he to drive. And in my experience guys who drink that volume are also quite confident in their ability to drive unaffected after - say - 5pints - indeed they will often tell you that they think their driving is actually better.

I have some experience of the terrible lives that the close family and loved ones of very heavy drinkers can have to live - and the damage that heavy drinking can do. It really is not something that we should talk of lightly, and it should never be dismissed as simply being something the drinker alone has to live and deal with. It is not.
It’s you and a few others that have expanded the op and invented all sorts of scenarios.
I can assure you I am fully aware of how alcohol can ruin lives and families and for that reason I’d prefer to deal in facts than fantasy.

Drinking to excess should be taken seriously, absolutely.

I think I am classed as a binge drinker nowadays.

Dont drink much in the house and sometimes go a week or 3 without even having a pint.

Try to go out with the lads who I go the match with and other mates once a month, normally anything from 8-12 pints if a 12.30/3.00 kick off, if I get the dancing shoes on can be 15 plus, although nowadays get bloated after 12 pints so may go on whiskies. Chippy as a nightcap.

From about 20-30 used to go out Friday and Saturday and get bladdered on both nights, and most weekends may have been in work on the Saturday morning/at the match/playing Sunday league - only rarely went out on the Sunday, as was normally knackered by then. Sometimes went out of a mad Monday or a Thursday occasionally. Night outs were more affordable years ago.

Years ago, I was all or nothing - 10 pints or none, but have learnt to just enjoy 1-2 sociable ones, nowadays.

May only have 1, possibly 2 good nights out a month these days, and never on a school night.

Its good to be honest.

The best quote I've heard, with regard alcoholism, would be from Greavsie…
Something along the lines of...

When you come to, in the middle of the night, going through your waste bins wringing the neck of your empties, for the last few drops, you know you are in trouble...

I'm scared to post incase i start being judged and classed a a danger.

Yes you did, you quite clearly stated that he probably thinks he is OK to drive after a load of beer, I'm not sure how much more of a clear insinuation its possible to make!

We were not told if he was a driver or not. Yes - I assumed he could be - and I clearly stated in a follow up post that if I had implied that he was a driver then that was not my intent.

The general point I was trying to make is that some very heavy drivers think it is OK to drive after, say, 5pints and indeed claim that their driving is better. Now please feel free to go ahead and pick holes in that if you wish.

Surely one of the points and great values in raising such a question is that it can develop into a more general discussion. The fact that A can drink 5pts before feeling drunk and B can drink 10 - or 20 - doesn't really add to the greater knowledge and understanding of those on the forum. But discussions of the risks and issues associated with heavy drinking just might make a forummer reflect on their own drinking habits - and that is a benefit to the individual and others.

But as the OP asked. I don't drink alcohol.

Being a Welfare Officer for over 10 years and now doing case work for the RBL I’ve seen more than enough drink related incidents to last a life time, one of the worst was keeping families apart in a hospital after a crash that cost 3 lives, 2 lads and a girl, 10 minutes after leaving a pub the car crashed, the headlines were full about squaddies drinking and driving etc.
At the inquest 3 months later it came out the driver had a zero alcohol result and it had been an unfortunate accident.
You don’t need any particular amount of alcohol to be a danger on the roads or to destroy families.
I like a drink as much as the next man, but prefer not to pass judgement on anyone without knowing the facts.

Back on topic of the original point, can't drink pints, well only two as after that I feel bloated and that's me done.

330ml bottles I can neck a few, but then after about 4 or 5 I'm fleeing bloated again.

Shot's of bourbon, I'll manage a few of those.

3 or 4 pints is my limit nowadays. Usually only do that level when watching the match in the pub. Other than that it’s a bottle of beer after a round of golf. Much prefer a glass of wine or stick to a quality scotch or brandy.

Forgotten I started the original post as I have been on a bender for 3 days!

Seriously to clear up a couple of points. The guy used to work in a Bank, lives within 400 yards from his place of work, does not drive, and his appointment was around lunchtime.

Sure as Hobbit said he was still possibly not fit to be at work meeting customers but he appears OK, on the outside at least, with his drinking.

Sorry I have not responded earlier
