6th year now
But no option for me to vote..........;)

There is a chance this could be my last year at current home club too.
Only just paid subs 6wks ago, 4 of my mates left, I had doubts, I should have probably done the same.

Where will you go? Parklands, Prudhoe, Newcastle, Gosforth clubs, Whickham? or just go nomad?

There isn't an option for me, joined my new club in March this year so, less than 12mths.

Can't wait to play it again :(

I'm just going into the third year at my home club, tis a decent club, members are friendly, it's doing well, accounts in the black, waiting list on 7 day membership, over 200 play the comps on a Saturday, fees have only risen £9 over the last 5 or more years, fees have been held at the same price for next year, new equipment has been bought i.e. new toro mower for the fairways, two new holes come into play next year, they had advice from the STRI on improving the greens and we're waiting on news from the sports council on whether a grant will be given to finance the building of an improved short game area and a small driving range.

Dunno tbh Dave.....??
Interest in golf itself is fading, ( since shoulder injury last year ) , the time it takes, the very short season us northerners have to endure, not many courses are good round here for 12 months

I'd prefer to go nomad, but like the idea of a handicap, to play occasional open.
Might look into flexi membership deals and see what's available, then I pick and choose and be a fair weather golfer....

My auld man still plays at your course, has done for a good few years, I would have joined as well, but when my dad asked about flexi memebership, a small amount paid up front and then a reduced green fee when I would play, he got laughed at and told "You're joking, if we do that everyone will want to join", hence I stayed nomad for another year then joined Whickham.

Got this fro the Whickham website

"Pay and Play Membership

Flexible Golf

40 places available for Pay and Play Members, pay an annual fee of £170, then pay reduced green fees from £6.00 per round.

Maintain a competitive handicap by playing in the Midweek Medal Competition"

A full member for 33 years , now on reduced fees .:smirk:My ashes will be scattered in the middle of the 1st fairway and hopefully stay there. I just hope I don't get blown OOB or behind a tree again !!!.

I reckon so rob!

It's interesting to see the spread where some bounce every year, yet others have been born and will no doubt die at the same club!

Suppose that's when you know you have or haven't found the right club.

5 months. Key factor was locality.
Previous was 7 years and 30 minute drive, very geared towards pay and play too. Could get very busy.
New club is private members, lot nearer and no tee booking which is taking some getting used to.

4th year now ,
Big Plus points is its in great condition 99% of the time , its 7 mins from home & 3 mins from work so evening or cpl of holes golf is possible

Big negative are the bandits and the "ah sure its always been that" way attitude, ,
The lack of understanding of the way things are suppose to be done properly .

I get on with nearly everyone in the club so i dont mind that bit , but there is an ole boys club and newbies can be ignored a bit , not good

17 years and really still feel privileged to be there.

Beautiful Harry Colt parkland course with a great membership overall and a bunch of mates that have so many great times together.

Wouldn't ever dream of changing to anywhere else unless I had to relocate for some reason.

58 years & a life member now so I'll probably see out my days here and have my ashes scattered on the 18th fairway on the spot where I usually shank it into the bunker. Of all the local courses, this is the best. Free draining on limestone, interesting, no really bad holes & one I'm happy to play week in, week out through winter & summer.

I joined as an 11 year old & have never left the area, always working locally. Sometimes, driving up to the club, I think to myself "How many times have I made this journey?" I reckon around 7,000 return journeys. More, if you count visits to my girlfriend, now my wife, who lived on the route to the club.

It is great that you have such a history at a club you obviously love.
I joined my club in 1982,my first club even though I had been playing since 1967.
I only moved to Cheshire in 1977 from London and love the area.
I will never change clubs as ,like you ,I think our course is the best locally.
It is great to be content with ones lot ,golf-wise,as reading some threads on here many are not always happy at their clubs.
Heres to a few more years yet at this private members club that seems to have changed to a modern way of management without too many upsets.
I only have to get a pair of jeans now to still be able mix in the clubhouse!
Dewsweeper

worst poll options ever lol

6 yrs for me (not an option). good crowd of lads, now on the committee and cant find any better options locally so cant see me changing unless we move out of the area or win the lottery.

9 years for me.

Best thing about the club is it's so friendly, I don't have a set group but with our on-line booking I know that it doesn't matter who I put my name down with, I'll get a warm welcome on the tee.
This does lead to many embarrassing occasions though when I'll be greeted by name around the club and I can't for the life of me remember their name, or is that just old age?
