How long do you keep using the same ball?

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

My ZStars stay in good condition, as i hit every shot fat. :(

Did lose a brand new one in foursomes after i hit it once. My partner hit our second shot into a pond, and didn't even offer to wade in and get it. ;)

They seem to be attracted to water. Lost my only ball on Saturday to water...Well, I say "lost it"...I know where it is. I just couldn't get it :( ;)

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

A new Pro V1x each round, I find they are pretty durable even with some wedge ripping going on!

2 boxes got me through all last summer and I had 1 1/2 sleeves left before I went to Gleneagles a few weeks back, I now have 1 ball left!

A new ball per round.... You must not play often then for not getting through 2 dozen a summer.

I play about 3 times a week on average so I'd have to buy more boxes after 2 months.... ;)

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

Im finding that last years Zstars cut up worse than the Pro V1s do, got some of the new Zstars to see if they fare any better

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

Throughout the winter i've played with pretty much anything but now the good weather is here i usually use the z-stars for a couple of rounds then lash them in my practice bag.

I dont think the z-stars cut up as quick as the cally i balls.

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

I used a Srixon ZURC at the weekend and whilst it got a bit tatty, i continued using it and notice no real difference in the way it performed. I'll re-use it in a bounce game but i'll always start a competition with a newy !

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

I've been using B330RXS's for the last year and was pleased with how they weathered compared to the pro v1's I'd used before. Then last month I bought 3 new wedges and the balls were unusable after a couple of shots with them. Got some of the old ZSTARS cheap and they seem to be fairing better, same one for last 3 rounds.

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

Interesting reading!

I've been considering giving the new Srixon Zstar a try after reading some of the reviews on the forum. Not that there is anything wrong with the B330RX at all.

After reading this I think I will stick, saw the 2010 Bridgestones for £19.99 a dozen or the 2011 for £50.00 for 2 dozen at the range tonight, looks like I will be stocking up tomorrow!

As for the OP; I will usually keep a ball for 2 competitive rounds before assigining it to practice/provisional duties.

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

Been using Bridgestone B330 and B330-S, seem pretty durable and been lasting a few rounds over the winter. Going to stick to the Bridgestones now as getting on well with them.

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

Always start a competitive round with a brand new ball. Ironically last year I seemed to lose balls hand over fist (especially as I was running a comp on the blog for how many I'd get through) and this year I'm keeping them with regularity. OK I lost one at today with a bad drive but they are usually lasting a couple of rounds before hitting the practice bag. I don't have a real issue with Z star or most other premium brands scuffing too much and to be honest unless its a horrific scar I tend to crack on with it anyway.

Re: How long should you keep using the same ball?

This is an interesting question. Iv'e probably often used the same ball on and off throughout the summer,i'll just pull a randon ball out of the bag and if it looks ok i'll use it but I'll use a new one out of the sleeve for comps.[mainly ad333]

As well as wear and tear does a ball keep its perfect shape after a few rounds and also its compression, they do take a beating.
