How long do you keep using the same ball?

A fairly open question, but I whipped out the Z-Stars for the first time at the weekend. Great balls and loved the way they played but I must have gone through about a dozen because they were getting cut up and scuffed VERY easily.

Not tried the ProV's or Penta's for proper yet but do these balls suffer from the same problem?

Depends what you want them for. If you are looking for immaculate ones for a comp round then you will need a new one for every round. May need to change during the round if you blade one or have ripped a spinny one.

If it's just balls for knock about rounds then they should last in decent(ish) condition for 5 rounds at least.

I had 15 already well used provs in my bag for the winter, they are all still usable (the 12 I have left) and will see me through next winter.

They all suffer generally.

I use the pro V1x balls and they are quite good for durability. Usually a few rounds out of the same ball then into the practise bag it goes.

Maybe it's because you rip it with tons of spin??

I use the z-stars and mine seem to last well and they only really seem to scuff up if i hit them into trees/branches or if i end up in a few bunkers with them as the course i play the sand is pretty rough.

I've bought a sleeve of penta balls and used the same ball for a couple of rounds and it hardly had a mark on it so i'm guessing they are abit tougher.

I use a ball until I lose it, and I've been known to lose a brand spanking new ball on it's first hit

They're still playable, but I didn't expect them to scuff so easily.

Can't remember about the Srixons but I've used the same Pro V for the last 5 rounds still fine apart from the odd scuff. I usually get a couple of medal rounds with a new pro v1. Don't think you should be destroying a ball unless you are catching every approach shot sweet with a wedge, or thinning every shot?

DX2 & DX3 are teh same, lovely ball but cut up like mad. I seem to be getting around 3 rounds from a AD333, so ill use these until the courses firm up around may then swap back to dx3's

I haven't lost a ball yet this year, and have played in excess of 30 rounds. I retire them when they look a bit tatty. I hate losing balls. It is an admission that I'm playing rubbish.

I find ProVs last ok, for 3 to 5 rounds and then get put in the practice bag. The Srixon Trispeed tours that I was using over the winter get retired after two rounds, as they really scuff up. I can't get on with NXT for the same reason.

I have some Zstars and some (loads) Bridgestone 330RX to use once the proVs are retired. Since I have played with neither of them, I'll see how I get on.

I would never consider using 12 balls in a round of golf. That's insane. They can't possibly cut up that badly.

That said, one of the Nike balls just rips to pieces. One hit, and it's totally gone. Might be the Tour Accuracy. Tried one once, first wedge nearly cut it in half. Nice feel though.

When I said "a dozen", I actually meant "half a dozen"...And by that, I actually meant "I was rotating 6 different Z-Stars because I had them in my pocket" but 4 of them did get very beaten...oh and I did play 36 holes.

I use Bridgestones at the minute and I'll use it until I lose it or it gets REALLY beaten up (which takes 3 or 4 rounds). I don't care if my ball has a few scuff marks on it.

I don't know what this practice bag thing is you all mention. When mine's past its best it goes in my bag to use on the course again as a provisional or if I lose one and my round isn't worth another new one.

If I've played a couple of full rounds I'd probably be relagating it to "provisional" status, especially in competition.

You must wear very baggy trousers. I can't even play with the one spare in my pocket. It just feels wrong, and gets in the way, especially when I'm putting.

A new Pro V1x each round, I find they are pretty durable even with some wedge ripping going on!

2 boxes got me through all last summer and I had 1 1/2 sleeves left before I went to Gleneagles a few weeks back, I now have 1 ball left!
