How do you warm up before a round?

Until about a month ago I'd have said walk on to the tee, swish the driver a few times then tee off.

My last few rounds I've tried stretching a little before playing and I think it helps. Not necessarily with the quality of the first shot, but it now doesn't take me a couple of holes to feel loose and relaxed.

Hands about 2' apart holding a club above my head and bend to each side in turn a few times, then still holding the club but arms out in front of me a turn to each side a few times whilst trying to keep my hips facing forward. It 'feels' like it loosens up my back and shoulders a little so I'll stick with it for now.

All of the above is only if there aren't too many people watching! :o

i warm up the same way every time no matter what time of the day i play. i drive up in a mild panic that im going to miss my tee time. quick dash to the shop if it a comp or park in my usual spot and throw the clubs over the fence if its a knock about. couple of pro air shots then its time for a nice slice, hook if im feeling fruity! :)

Whatever you do, you should try and do the same every time you play. Get a routine. But, as everyone is different there's no right or wrong answer to this but if you believe all the fitness gurus, you should always warm up first.
I mean, what does it matter if you dont warm up and blob the first few holes.....they dont really count do they?
I like to arrive an hour before my tee time. Coffee and a bacon roll, warm up on the range, 10 minutes getting the pace of the greens (mistake at Blackmoor) then off to the tee in plenty of time. Nothing is worse for me than to be rushed before a game.

I was lucky to have plenty of time for my rounds of golf when I was a member. I still carry the same routine now.

Get to the course about an hour early, bacon roll + coffee. Stretches then off for putting and chipping warm up, then either nets or range depending on facilities. Sometimes back to the putting green just before I head out to calm any nerves.

I know of club champs who's pre-round warm up was two pints O' Guinness and some stretches...

As its summer my pre round routine begins with a full english, with lager. Winter time its a full english with Guinness. Then off to the putting green for a few putts, a swish and then tee off.

Static stretches in the house before I leave then some dynamic stretches when I get to the club. A couple of Miguel's with 2 clubs, then a couple of swooshes with whatever club I'm going to hit off of the 1st tee then away I go.

Turn up 10 min before, hit a couple of putts, swing the driver a few time's then away.

Try not to hit balls before hand, wastes all my good shots, or have the fact i've shanked a few once i start playing;)

Turn up 30 mins before hand & sort out tees ,card , pen etc .. on to the putting green, practice pace putting , then hole out about 6/8 3footers then a bit of stretching , fingers to the ground, then knuckles to the ground , (legs straight for the comedians :)) leg up on the railing at hip height & pull the toes back , hold for count to 7, alternate two or 3 times , back to touching the ground again & away to the tee , sounds alot but takes 10 mins tops ..

Blimey I could not get my leg up that high. Even if someone lifted it up there for me. If on the off chance I did absolutely no way I could get it down. Takes me all my time to get my leg over anything, these days

Deke, I find balancing a cat on my head for 20 mins before a game helps me to stretch the muscles and relax the mind. ;-)

But I allready do that Hendo! ;-) Thanks for all the input chaps,I think I will start planning my new warm up routine now! Cheers.

If there's time I'll hit a dozen balls on the range, but most of my comp tee times seem to be pre-8am, so can't really justify the early start with the missus on a weekend.

Hit a few pitches on the practice are next to the 1st, 10 minutes on the putting green then off.

I find if I'm too loosened up, my muscles lose their elasticicty!

Unusually, we got to the away club for a scratch match at the weekend with plenty of time to spare, so hit a few on the range. They were such awful shots that I went to the first tee in a total mess, and started double double double and 3 down after 3!!!!

Thanks again lads for the input,it does seem to me like a lot of you would benefit from some kind of stretching or warm up routine, especially those with injuries. Why don't you? All of you who don't have you never pulled or torn a muscle? Cheers.

I normally rub myself down with a damp haddock, it also doubles up as a rules enforcer during the round.

I'm struggling to find playing partners at the moment, can't figure out why.....
