How do you avoid temptation of new shiny bats?

How do I resist the temptation of new shiny bats?

By understanding completely that they won't make the slightest difference to my handicap or skill levels, irrespective of what they are made from, who built them, how they are fitted, what the marketing material says.....etc etc.

It is all cobblers..

So i popped into my pro shop today after having a spare half hour i went and did some putting.

Having a coffee and a chat, 5 minutes later i am in the net with a TM TP MC and oh my goodness how nice? So how do i stop myself thinking i need to swap to these when i know full well my Rbladez are awesome (ok a bit chunkier and not forged) but still awesome!

Also on the lookout for shaft options for my driver to save me testing out the SLDR, i25, Amp Cell and any others that may be worth having a whack with! oh i hate golf shops, why do i go in them?!

Remind myself that I have to settle any credit card bill in one payment, remind myself I'll have to try to account for it to my 1st Lady !! plus it's the swing not the tools!!! ....

Though still spend some bucks, as just 2 weeks ago or so bought myself some new irons, however had had the previous ones around 10 years, so an upgrade was overdue as my much loved MP33's were well worn !!

But now due to, just in the last couple of days helping a 5 handicap 'friend' out with his swing on Trackman and watching him hit his new i25 driver (stock stiff shaft) and looking at the numbers, although I don't like the 'stripes' on it, was still tempted (by the numbers) to take up the offer and hit some myself.

Wow, looks like a big mistake moneywise. (As just bought a new 913 D3 too)

Haven't been that immediately impressed by any driver numbers like this for quite some time. All the more surprised as I've never been a Ping fan (apart from my old ping 1 iron) more or less always used Titleist drivers and metals except for a brief dalliance with a Black Tour R1.

Friend going up to Seattle with his wife this weekend (under a no golf rule!) so leaving me the driver to play with until he returns Monday. If it turns out to be as it looks so far, I'm going to be buying a Ping i25 driver and no-one can be more surprised than me about that for sure.

Sorry to put out some more temptation, but you sure have all got to try one. (and no I've got no affiliation to Ping at all, up till now never liked their drivers any.)

We have a Pro who won't sell you stuff unless he's 100% sure it's right for you so not point in looking.
I met one of them last week - hate him :(

I want custom fitted irons and a new driver (Ping G25 throughout) but there's no point until the swing changes settle down - At a time when everyone wants to pay me for stuff I did up to a year ago - If the swing doesn't settle down soon then chances are I'll end up spending it and more on another camera - I accumulate pro level cameras like some of you collect putters.

Mind you I did try out a lovely Scottie Cameron flat stick when in asking about custom fitting last week - that may get a chance to replace my Ping B60

So far this month very badly. I've bought a new hybrid, 2 wedges and a gokart trolley and looking at a 3 wood to match the hybrid and driver. I have a part time job so used the money from that so I don't feel too guilty.

The thing you don't want to do is have a fitting 'just to see' if there's any improvement and then find out that a new set of Cobra Bio Cell irons will give you a near 20 yard distance gain on your current, albeit old clubs.

I'm struggling to resist. Good thing they are too new to find used, also they aren't the prettiest so that helps too.

I have a real Diamana S+ (new incarnation of blueboard) with a TM adaptor that's only had 2 rounds before I decided to go back to my other one!

If rooter doesn't plump for it I could be interested, just acquired a newly new original 440 r11 that's beggin for an upgrade...

Oh and btw I don't resist, but I only buy clubs priced right, ie that I don't lose on, so far the only clubs I've lost any money on was the Adams .....

Those TMTP MC's are very nice looking clubs

Going to try them out at a demo day and if i feel they give me an improvement from my current set then i may well be tempted - but also looking at the MB's and Titliest CB Forges

Ah, I'm sure it will be worth the wait when your swing changes have settled in. I had custom fitting Part 4 last week. Pro still wasn't happy so I'm going to have another fitting with the Ping tour man that's coming to the club soon. Pro want's what he's worked out double checking. Could be a while still before I have new irons..........

The TM and the Cally Apex Pro are both excellent clubs. My club pro has just got himself the Apex pro and I had a swing. Lovely feel off the face but the scaffold pole he called a shaft was a nightmare. The TM TP's MC were also fun to hit and a definite step up from my 08 model. Well worth a look if you can't resist that lure of new shinies

There are some lovely bats out, irons are a long way off for me but a new big dog project has just started

You need to try the i25, I was amazed by the numbers and don't usually find much difference driver to driver but this is different for sure.
Have always mostly had Titleist drivers, not a fan of Ping or the 'stripes' but the performance is something else, have got my friends to try for a few days until Monday, after having a hit with it while helping him with his swing.

I've heard great things on the i25 and g25 but budget needs to be watched. Being honest I had a r11 when they first come out but a wild swing with the hot faced bat gave me some crazy results, It was long long long but wild. My driving has improved massively in recent the last 18 months so I've purchased another used one cheap to see if I can click with it again. I loved the smaller head, I hate looking down on 460 heads, and I have had a d3 on demo before which was nice so fancied trying something I a little smaller.

I've purchased it cheap enough to know I won't lose a bean, and with 100's of shafts on eBay at 30-40 quid I can now play a little with a relatively low financial commitment

Go for the I20's

Cheaper and the difference between the two clubs at our level is pretty much unnoticeable

When I got fitted the amp out performed the i20 buy miles, although I did prefer the head shape.

I say this but this was with a stock shaft, we ruled out the head pretty quickly in favour of the amp. What I will say is I notice the r11 seems to have an explosive face... Couple that with a low launch stable shaft and not that crap blur thing and it should be fun.

Currently have a whiteboard and hd6 lined up.
