How did your golf go this weekend?

Buffer for me: 34 pts. Started with a regulation double bogey on the first (I really need to learn how to play that hole) and took a few holes to get going and turned with 15pts but playing better than that. It all started to click on the back nine which started birdie, bogey, par, par, par, birdie and had me on the 16th tee 1 under handicap and flying. What a great time to throw in my worst drive of the day OB and blobbed. Parred 17 and was in position on the last, 72yds from the pin in two, then hit two horrific fat wedges and ended up with a double. Could and should have been a lot better but can't it always. Putted great, 29 in total and apart from a couple of loose shots it was really very good oon the whole

We had or match against Royal Dornoch on Saturday, which we won and reclaimed the Targe back. Won my match 2&1 against a guy i was giving 17 shots to;). Luckily i managed to get 4 birdies of which only two, won holes. He thinned his 2nd shot 3 times and each time the ball ended up 5 feet from the flag:(

Course in good, but look rather brown and we have not had any rain an 8 weeks and an east wind which had dried the course out so much they have had to start the sprinklers off, which they don't like doing if there's still frost about.

Shot 93 on a par 70 course - however, shot an 8 on the par 3 2nd had 7 3 putts... could have been a blinding game if the putter played ball & I didn't have a meltdown on the 2nd. Did make a birdie on the par 4 9th which was great!

Had a session at the range mid week my driver was going well at last? Played on Sat again my driver was going well ( it is my new best friend) came in with 38points. I was very please about this as it's progress I have been waiting for after winter lessons and plenty of practice. Not a chance of being in the prizes as 49 off 12H/P won????

Took my coaches advice a little too fare and messed up my swing for 5 holes. Hit some stonking shots, short irons hugely improved but never felt comfortable over the ball. Still didnt feel right by the end of the round then woke up Sunday with a pounding headache and felt rubbish so stayed in bed.

Going back to my old setup and reapplying my pros changes from that to see if I can rediscover my form. Lots of hard work to do on the range as well as the course to grove in the feel for my new wedges. I just need to keep a cool head and believe in myself.

This is what really bothers me about going for even one lesson (as I've only ever had one lesson - about 25yrs ago and it really bu**ered up my game for a while). My game is pretty good and I can score well but that is probably as much because I've played for so long rather than a goodish swing. But I can feel that something is really not right - I couldn't tell you what - but I know. I don't feel I have time to implement major changes to my swing. Maybe I just do a Faldo - accept that my swing was pretty good at one time but (due to long lay off) I've developed something that is wonky. Functionally OK but wonky - so get the problems identified and remediations in place - and potentially write-off this year as far as competing is concerned.

No competitive golf for me - need to wait until this weekend - but that's probably a good thing. Played a practise round on my own on Saturday for the first time in a fortnight and it went pretty much from good to dreadful and back again every hole I played.

Decent drive up the 1st, tugged the approach left of the green and then chunked the pitch shot into a bunker. Played out and 2 putts for double bogey. 2nd hole, put a 7 iron to 2 feet for a birdie 2. And so it continued. Overall, my long game was weaker than it has been but my short game, that duffed pitch at the 1st excepted, was not bad. The course was quiet, so I spent quite a bit of time putting from different points on different greens, just to try and get a feel for the pace and different breaks - they're really sandy just now, so tough to get a read on some of them.

Looking back on it, I didn't go through my routine properly and didn't really think about the shots I was playing. I think the fact that there was no pressure on the outcome of any shots meant I was careless about my approach to them.

On the up-side, I cleaned my clubs last night and put markings on my balls in preparation for this Saturday. I'm already excited :)

Saturday was a bit of a disappointment in the end. On Saturday night I was sitting second in an honours board better ball comp. Get to the club on Sunday to be advised that we had worked out the points wrong on one hole and so had one point less than we thought and that dropped us to seventh.

Still, Sunday was great. A good, old style, low key forum meet. Just a group of strangers who only know each other from here meeting up to take advantage of a member's guest rate to play and new course and have a laugh. Sun shone, company was great. There was some good golf and some indifferent golf and plenty of incident (Fragger hitting a deer). Beer and chat afterwards and it really was a great, relaxed day that involved no planning etc just a quick invite to see who wanted to make up a 4 ball. Happy to do more of these.

89 on Saturday, OK for the first round of the season. i promised to the captain of our company golf club that i am capeable of playing a score in the eighties, delivered on the mark even with a water ball on 18.
Sunday played only 6 holes with nephews, who i got started with golf yesterday. i played 2 over par (5 pars and a double after a plugged lie in the bunker)

Played 9 holes today, wasn't taking it seriously but I actually played quite well by my standards and ended up totting my scores up, I was 16 or 17 over for the 9. Ok not great but a full round like that would have brought me back 10 shots better than I've played before.

I've still fell out with my drivers though, I've completely lost the plot with them, 180yd 3 iron tee shots are my best effort at the moment.

Had to miss the monthly stableford. Frost delay of 40 minutes meant I wouldn't get round before I had to be somewhere else. Not often I book anything on a Saturday and if we'd started on time I would have been fine. Played a club match yesterday. Lost 3&1 but my partner hurt his back early on and could barely swing on some holes so was playing the opposition pair single handed at times. Made great start and we were 3 up after 3. I made a great par at the 1st (Hawkeye are you watching) pitching to a foot off a bare muddy lie.

A few loose shots and poor putting mid round but a tee shot to a matter of inches at the par 3 eighth for a conceded birdie. Hit a stonker 5 wood at the 12th to set up par. I couldn't buy a putt all round but I found a short game spark of life. Plenty to be positive about. I am still not happy with my swing but I am getting it round.
