Drivers - How forgiving is forgiving?

I'd be buying a Ping driver second hand - G430, G425, G410 or G400, whatever suits the budget - and go for the SFT models if you're still concerned about slicing, Max model if you're not so much. They are the most forgiving drivers out there, and they hold value so if you end up selling it on again in a month or two you won't lose very much at all.

A bit OT
No doubt it’d be nice/fun to try before you buy and it (probably) can’t hurt but not convinced its necessary (if using ‘regular/standard’ as the starting point)

Without exception none of my clubs were tried before buying and I’m playing better golf & scoring lower than I ever have. I’ll happily admit that the first few shots with any of my clubs be it driver, iron or wedge, didn’t make me go wow! I find there’s an adjustment/learning curve when changing clubs. But once passed the bedding in part they're all good

I have this with my 4 wood, hybrids and wedges. The irons and driver were custom fit but the hybrids I just matched and they going nicely same with 4 wood now I'm connecting better.. it's just the same as My driver

Personally I would say lessons and get a proper fit.

I have recently had a fitting from Precision Golf. Fitted in a stiff for Fairway and irons/Wedges. Driver I was put into a SR flex which is between Regular and Stiff. Worked the best for me out of all the shafts they gave me.

Just be careful going for a shaft because you think it may work. It might end up being worse for your game.

I bought a PXG driver a couple of years ago because it was an offer too good to pass up. I wish I had passed it up; I really didn't get on with it. They must suit some people, but I've known a few who owned one and nobody who still owns one.
Pretty much everyone I know who wants a forgiving driver has a Ping G4xxMax or Taylormade StealthHD/QIx and has bought it without a fitting.
I have G400Max and Stealth2HD, both of which are plenty forgiving. I rarely lose a ball off the tee these days. If you can't keep one of those in play 90% of the time then it's not the club that's the issue.

Lessons is my stock reply. You can't buy a golf game (and I know I've tried) as a more forgiving club still won't help a wonky swing

Was it the 0211? They did a crazy end of season / range sale of these. Almost rude not to try one 😄 . I bought one, still use it, very happy with it. Meet the exception :ROFLMAO:

I could barely get the ball airborne with mine, so I'm thrilled for you. 🤨😉
No, mine was the 0811X Prototype for £160. Got £100 trading in at GC4C, so not too heavy a hit.

I can't hit a Taylormade wood for love nor money. 1 in 10 is fantastic, the other 9 are horrific. Hybrids, woods, drivers, absolute horror shows for me. It's weird, some stuff suits, others don't.

I did the same, only I replaced it with another PXG bargain that works even better for me.
The original 0211 is now in the bag of my eldest daughter with a reg shaft in it. She loves it and is bombing it around...

I also bought one in sale and still use it, sometimes I swap back to my Ping driver but there’s very little difference between the two.
