Higher up the face on fibrebuilt mat

So, I have a little hitting area in the garage, and have a range mat, and also a fibrebuilt mat insert (managed to grab from a range), anyway .. what I have noticed is that, hitting from the fibrebuilt mat, I get less distance, and after foot spraying the face, my strike location is above centre, however, when I hit off the tighter range mat, the strike location is lower, below centre and therefore, tend to get more distance

For people who have a fibrebuilt, is this typical (due to the ball sitting up a little more), or would this be anything to do with my swing?

When I go to the range I move the ball to section where I stand on for iron practice I have never felt the strike off a soft mat to be the same as on turf. Faults can be quite hidden off mats because they are more forgiving.

Possibly a sign of turf then ball strike rather than ball then turf strike.

Mats can always hide strike issues as they tend to skid.
