We've had a tragic sudden death in the family so we will be spending a Month in the USA to help out

Looking into travel options it seems driving to Heathrow and leaving my car long stay is probably the best option. I've checked out the long stay parks on line but does anyone have any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

So sorry to hear your problems SR.

We use Airport parking regularly, not Heathrow, but if you go onto Money Savings Expert and type in ”Cheap Airport Parking“ and go via the link you will receive a discount although it depends on which company you book with.

This .
Have used APH at Gatwick.
Can sometimes get good deals with preflight hotel and parking but guess that depends on your flight times.

We went to London last week and used JustPark to find a parking space in the drive of a house close to Wembley station. It cost just £26 for 6 nights and worked really well, so you might want to have a look at what they have to offer. They also give you prices for long-stay car parks they deal with.

Sorry for your loss.
We have always used Purple Parking and they are always sending promotional emails. However when we looked for a quote a few weeks ago, their pricing (admittedly for ‘meet and greet’) were nearly 3 times the price of two years ago (£195 for 6 nights vs. £70 in2019 at Terminal 5), despite the fact they give quotes from different providers. We eventually when through BA who quoted £30 less.
Prices have risen considerably recently and by about the same factor at Bristol Airport where we are flying from in a couple of weeks. It looks as if they are trying to recoup lost revenue of the last two years.

How do you get to and from the airport/ultimate destination?

Used to use Purple Parking, no issues with them. Nowadays, we get a taxi to take us and collect us, slightly more expensive than the parking, but means I don't have to drive after getting off a 13 hour flight (24 hrs door to door). There are specialist airport transfer companies local to us, but one of the local taxi companies does a good deal and haven't let us down yet. If you're within an hour or so, I'd recommend the taxi option if there's not too much price difference.

Well, in our case we had a 5 minute walk to the tube, but you could get a cab. As a matter of interest I looked to see how much a cab to Heathrow would cost from where we parked in Wembley and it would be around £55 each way. Obviously you could look for somewhere closer.

A month. Bloody hell, that'll cost you. Would it not be cheaper to get a taxi or public transport?

I no longer use valet parking after my car added over 100 miles during a stay at Purple Parking (photo to prove it) and another valet company lost our car and kept us waiting for several hours (after a midnight arrival) looking for it.

I did look into trains/coaches but the main problem is timescale, by the time we got from Malvern to Heathrow it would need a night stay over to get to the terminal in time for a flight, all a bit of a curfuffel. I guess we could get a taxi but it's not really cheaper than a long term car park.

We do have someone in the family who could drive and collect us but it's a long old return trip and when you consider two return trips the fuel costs it's probably best to leave the car in long stay.

We've always used Heathrow's own long stay car parks, never had any issues. A calendar month starting tomorrow was between £267 & £292 depending on your terminal. IIRC they were all ANPR camera operated so no worries finding your ticket.

Echoing what @Ethan has alluded to, I would never hand my car keys over to a complete stranger to park for me at an airport; I've seen too many horror stories about how these companies work.

Sorry for your loss.

A couple of other weird Heathrow events.

Once, I had parked in short stay for an overnight business trip. Had parked nose into the space, which I don’t normally do. Got back to the car, turned it on, parking bleeper started going off. Backed out, drove home, parked and then noticed the front number plate (which had embedded parking sensors) was missing. Assumed someone in the space in front of me had got too close and knocked it off, asked dealer to fix. Dealer took a look and told me the plate had been removed and the wires cut. Called Heathrow police and they said it could be someone who wanted to disguise the identity of their car for fuel theft or worse.

Had a colleague who was known as a bit of a jinx fur travel. Something always went wrong when she travelled. She went off with a colleague on a trip, after much office banter about what disaster would ensue. Got back to Heathrow and she called to say nothing had happened and they were eating fir Purple Parking to bring back their cars. Called back again 20 mins later to say that Purple Parking had brought back both cars but crashed one into the other in front of them and both were undriveable.

Given the marginally higher cost of a taxi on top of what it is all costing I'd take the hit for the peace of mind and hassle free time at Heathrow.
