Gentlemen and Ladies, i need some help.

For some time, my choice in head-wear is a real dilemma to me, I am usually a standard baseball cap style of person. I have numerous colours and designs, however.. I have not been professionally fitted for any of these and i am wondering whether this is having a negative impact on my game.

I played last week and shot the lowest score of some time, now that day i was "hat-less"!!!

I am starting to think maybe a visor style of cap would be better, I still have 100% of my hair, so i have no solar panels up top to worry about (for now) But even if that is the right move for me, what about colour? what impact will this have? Can i gain 3 yards on my drives with a red hat? (we all know red cars are the fastest, so I can only assume the same impact is present in hat colours?!)

Then it gets even trickier with winter around the corner, would a pompom type hat work, a traditional beanie? I am thinking i need something to cover my ears, i get awful headaches in the cold from cold ears..

Does anyone know a professional that can help me with fitting me for the correct head-wear? preferably someone with a "Hat-MAN" system. I am willing to travel at least 14 minutes from my house to see the right guy.

Thanks for your help guys, hope the replies will be helpful to some of you.

I think you've answered your own question Scott, your swing is clearly designed to work best without any headwear.

When I had my hat fitting, the fitter went into considerable detail about the effect different head shapes have on the swing. The fastest swings were generated by those with the fullest heads of hair, this is backed up by the fact that young golfers tend to hit the ball much further than baldy seniors.

Save your cash mate spend it on something else that will really benefit your game!

Have you thought about a proper headcover fitting?

Thanks D4S, interesting reading. out of interest, where did you get a fitting done? i dont trust any of the pro's round here.. most of them are bald, so that would be like seeing a dentist when you have a problem with your finger?!

Hmm, headcover fitting is another thing i had considered, i am still using the manufacturer supplied ones, which until i drop a few shots on my handicap i think i will stick with. Unless i get to Cat2 anytime soon, i can see my novelty animal headcover staying in the garage.

I think this is the next area the major brands will focus their attention.
We already have customizable clubs. Trolleys and bags come with holders for every item.

What about customizable hats? maybe footfootjoy will release the long awaited Myhat website were you can accessorize your hat .

I want something like this: but would like it to have a scorecard holder, tee holder ball cleaner, inbuilt Satnav....

Early prototype hat which will include a bungee cord - so links course players do need to be concerned about losing the hat-nav :D

Wear either
1. a balaclava
2. Cycling helmet

That will help your game and protect your hair from falling out and you will be remembered on the course too
