Has Equality Harmed Womens Golf. Peter Alliss Thinks So

This is where the problem lies. Untill there is mixed medals, its not the same product.

Kaz, do you think less women would play in medals if there was a chance they were out with 2 guys? I personally think that's how it should be, pick your time slot and drawn.

I'd be perfectly happy to play with men (Golf, that is...) but at my previous club, we had a lot of men refuse to play in a popular fixture as they said it should be for men only and they didn't want to play alongside women.
Very shortsiighted, as there would have only been at most 30 women playing, so not enough females "to go round"

Good, wasn't sure and was the only obstacle I could see in my head!

To be honest that would probably suit me aswell as sometimes I can't make a comp one weekend etc so would have more opportunity to enter.

Yeah, it's good to have the flexibility. We used to have a rule that you had to declare whether you were a "Friday" or "Saturday" player and you had to get dispensation to play in the other but fortunately that rule got scrapped a couple of years ago. Of course, you can only enter on one day!

The issues you'll find are things like different weather conditions and, annoyingly, different tee and pin placements which can potentially affect the outcome.

Yes I guess it could be an issue, sure they could leave the flags where they are though?

Living on the coast the weather can be from different seasons from morning to afternoon never mind day to day!!!

I'm sure people would still find some reason(s) to moan about that type of set up but probably along the lines of where clubs need to get to in order for "equality" to actually be just that........

Would be nice to see different tees graded for both men and women, with guidelines of which tee to play off, depending on how far you drive (taking forum distances into account)

A bit confused buddy, what's meant by "taking forum distances into account" would I be rite in presuming your referring to some kind of over exaggeration of their actual "driving distance" or does it mean something else entirely !...

It does indeed. Unfortunately for mere mortals, but to be a member of a golf forum, if you don't have a 200 yard pitching wedge, you're a pretty short hitter! (luckily this is mainly on US golf forums, over here people seem more likely to downplay their distances!)

Old fashioned views but I think its right all players, men or women should pay the same amount.

Well it's a touchy one, if women's fee's go up, shouldn't the men's come down in relation to get the proportionate increase in revenues received by increasing the womens

To me clubs are just profiting from the female increase.

Men paid X amount for 7 day access. If women now get access for 7 days, they should pay X as well ( to reflect increased use), it should be a meet in the middle type of thing, IMO

Exactly, if the increase in women's fees for example being £5k of increased revenue per year to the club, then the men's should be reduced in ratio in order to cancel out the £5k increase or atleast stay the same. Come clubs are increasing the female fees then still increasing the men's in line with previous years, which in my opinion just exploits the equal rights loop hole

Rite I see, that puts me firmly in the "Short Hitter" bracket as far as wedges go then as I don't seem to be able to hit em as far as most other people do (don't know why) but my irons and drivers are another thing altogether (I pitched on the par 3 10th green off the yellows on Sunday, into a head wind, 3 wood, 232yds, then 3 putted:rolleyes:) weird how that works innit !...

Our fees are adults fees - no distinction between Men and Women

All have the right to the course at any time unless a competition is booked - from next month i have introduced mixed medals which will happen every month from MAy

We did ask the membership if they wanted to merge the men and women's competitions into one but the unanimous verdict was NO. They were happy playing as two sections although they are all paying the same price

Are any ladies comps on a Saturday out of interest Homer?

Slightly off topic - but does anyone know if the slope handicapping system is gender-neutral or does it still have separate ratings for gents and ladies ?? ....and yes the first 5 mins of google searching failed to pop the answer up for me.

From my time playing under it in NZ I think so , will message them out there to ask . Slab and Madade ( SP ) might know too.

In NZ we genrally played off the same tees for social and comp golf which was the whites and Ladies always played off the reds so in that sense yes

Haha damn it, i meant to right shouldn't! I disagree with you, i think both should pay the current full price!

Yes. They run their own events on Tuesday (ladies day historically) and either a Saturday or Sunday (not the same event...I think!)

Seems pretty equal then if there are enough comps on weekends to satisfy the membership.

There aren't many ladies comps at mine on a Saturday so I guess it may become an issue at some point.......

Can't see it happening Iain as the Ladies don't want rounds that take over 4 hours.

Very easy to do, get rid of the outdated UK system and go to slope and rating for each tee box. Works a treat out here and it actually means that I could play a competitive game against someone who is playing from a teebox 40 yards ahead of me.
