Handicap Reduction Query

It wasn't a qualifying competition and neither signed the supplementary book before play

So there's no handicap regulation that says this particular example can't be a qualifier (assuming its designated as such pre-comp) and no instructions to clubs that wherever possible all eligible comps should be qualifiers?

The rounds including the final could be a qualifier because they are being asked to putt out - which I'm not sure why , what's the point of putting out in a matchplay if your opponent has already won the hole and your scratching around for a double. Seems ridiculous to ask people to putt out.

But it would need to be declared that it is HC qualifying and every round must be the same which would make it a admin nightmare

Cheers Phil

I'm genuinely interested in what makes the admin a challenge (is it that a single comp runs over an extended period with multiple rounds for certain players or can each round be deemed a comp for handicap purposes)

If the admin could be overcome it seems like a 'wasted' opportunity to get more scores recorded for players (which can only be good)

Every single round would need to deemed a HC Qualfiying- that would mean any day a single game from one round is played would mean the Comp would need to be closed. So you could have a comp set up for every single day - a medal every single day, that's a very hard thing to administer. It would also take away what matchplay is about and how it's played - having your HC riding on it would change the complexion of the format

I know many players just wouldn't bother playing if every single match was HC qualifying.

Ah ok, so as a one off played over a day or weekend it fits the criteria of a qualifier but when viewed as the big picture then a whole bunch of variables might come into play that means a 'comp' each day a tie is played

The comp in question is not matchplay, you both play the course together as per a medal, best net score wins, hence all putts to be made

How do the people get to the final ?

So it's basically a medal for just two people. They should have set it up as a qualifier and the card valid for HC

I'd much rather someone put in a card that gets them cut ...

Knockout, Round 1, Example, Me v You, Par 72, you score Gross 76, net 72, I score Gross 84, net 73, you win and advance to round 2. :)

As you also say each match is medal not actually matchplay.

Sounds daft to me. If two people are playing against each other in a match I can't see why it wouldn't be some form of matchplay.

Oh lovely, I will promptly be putting in 10 supplementarys before Cooden then........cushty :fore::whoo:

Is Cooden more than 10 weeks away. You are only allowed one Supplementary Score a week and a maximum of 3 a year if you are Cat 1 (subject to not having done enough qualifying medals).

We introduced Stableford Match to see if we could get more players interested in Summer Knockout comps and it has been a reasonable success.

The match has to be played to Stroke Play rules (as modified by Stableford) no gimmes or concession of any strokes, bit more of a test. I had wanted medal match but the vote went for Stableford.
