On wednesday I'm playing in the Medal. Should the unthinkable happen and I play well enough to get cut I wont find out until the cards get processed, probably around 9.30 thursday. At 8.30 thursday I'm teeing off with CVG in the KO doubles.
But what if they put the cards through early and the computer spits out a cut to 9 at 8.25?
Do I still play off 10?
At 8.25 I'll be on the tee waiting to go and not be able to look at a new list of handicaps.

Who Knows, Who Cares

You will know the result of the medal, so you will know if you will be cut, in the unlikely event of this happening, suggest you speak to the boys straight after the medal and say you want it processed before the doubles

they may tell you to get lost

Imurgs Handicap is his Driving
Compounded by his current lack of Driver

I bet if he ditched his driver and 3 wooded everything, his handicap would fall

I thought you play to the handicap thats on the board :D

No, if you know you will have been cut, it is your responsibility to play off your new handicap.

For example, if the OP goes out and shoots a nett 65, he's definitely going to come down at least enough to take him to 9, therefore he has to play off 9. If he shoots a nett 69 or 70, and he's not sure what the CSS will be, then unless he knows he's been cut then noone can complain about him playing from 10.

Unless the Css comes down but 2 shots as its been a nice day and everyone's scored well. THere's also the possibility - unlikely but..- that I may not have signed the card or there is some other discrepancy and a DQ follows. Surely I have to wait for the list to be posted?

But if you do not know you have been cut then why would you play of a possibly false handicap. A quick phone call may resolve the issue, but I have always been informed that you play off the official handicap sheets.

And I suggest you re read my answer, you will know what you scored in the medal, so you will know if you have a chance of being cut, if this happens, talk to the boys behind the counter.

You guys just love each others' game don't you.

IMO it's what you know inside; you play well enough in the Medal to get a cut and YOU know that your h/c is cut irrespective of the timing of the committee's posting of the sheet. Ne c'est pas?

I'm just jealous as I wish my h/c was being cut but not after today

The movable feast that is Competition Standard Scratch means I can only guess at a what I might get cut. SSS is 69. If I shoot nett 66 but CSS drops to 67 as its been a good scoring day then I only get cut .2 = 9.5 = no drop in playing handicap. A CSS drop of 1 shot and I get cut to 9.3 = a drop to 9.

That's the problem.

What I'm saying is - if the cards are processed just as I'm about to tee off and I have been cut to 9 but I have no way of knowing - do I play off 9 or 10?
It probably wont happen but I don't want to be accused of playing off a wrong handicap and getting us DQ'd.

I'm going to consult the guys on wednesday if it happens.

In all seriousness, if I played in a proper comp and might have got cut, I'd try to find out the CSS and cut myself just in case.
Is it against the rules to play off too low a h'cap?
At least if you cut yourself and happen to be wrong, you can't be accused of cheating....even if you get DQ'd

Think that you are best to "assume" csss is the same as the sss for the course and adjust your handicap accordingly yourself. At least then you are seen to be trying to address the issue and not seen to be trying to gain an advantage.

CONGU rules say you must cut yourself, if you do not know the CSS you must assume that it was the same as the SSS. You cannot be disqualified for playing off too low a handicap though of course you can for too high.

Imurg,

Couple of quick things that may (or may not!) help.

1) CSS cannot come down by 2 - the range is from -1 to +3 of SSS (unless things have changed since my time calculating handicaps, although this is still how it is on the CONGU website).
2) Here is the 'official' CONGU procedure relating to the situation you refer to:-

20.11 If a player returns a Qualifying Score or Scores below his Playing Handicap at his Home Club or away and is unable to:

1. (a) report an away score(s) to his Home Club or
2. (b) ascertain whether or not his Playing Handicap has been reduced as a result of the score(s)

he shall, before playing in another competition at his Home Club or away, for that competition make such reduction to his Playing Handicap as shall be appropriate under the UHS (Unified Handicapping System) by applying the Competition Scratch Score if known, otherwise the Standard Scratch Score, to calculate his Nett Differential and handicap reduction.

Should a player not know his Exact Handicap, such reduction should be made from his Playing Handicap less 0.5, (e.g. if Playing Handicap is 16 then reduction should be from 15.5).

Note: Handicap reductions only shall be applied under this sub-clause. Handicap increases may only be made by a player's Home Club after scores have been duly reported.

Thanks All.

So if I do shoot a score that gets me cut I should cut myself refering to SSS if the cards havn't been processed.

LIke I said, its probably not going to happen but now I know the course to take.
