Hi folks,

Playing Hanbury Manor on Friday so I'm after any useful hints and tips on the course. I think there was a GM centenary event earlier in the year, so hoping a few of you know the course a bit.

I know the first is theoretically driveable, but is that a silly one to go for, or worth a crack?

All feedback gratefully received :)

Can you carry the green and stop the ball on a sixpence.....?

It's a 240+ carry over a greenside bunker to the first green and then you have to stop the ball. Loads went for it on the day but I bet not many made it.
My advice - knock one 210 down the middle and wedge it on.

It's a quite hilly, some steep climbs and drops and if you get off line you're in trouble.
It's a Pro Tournament quality course so it's not supposed to be easy.

Greens were pretty slick although I found them to be ok. Very fast but true

Nope. But on Monday I'll be on here lamenting the fact I got drawn into a p-ing contest and went for it any way and made 6. :(

Murph, I seem to remember playing a course some time ago on which there was also wind present. This should be invaluable preparation. Was there also grass? ;)

Posted this previously - so a cut and paste job!

I played in a society a couple of years back and, being the last group out I saw everyone (40 or so) play the first. We were off the yellows from memory and nearly everyone had a shy at the green. Can't remember it being that short, but my ball striking wasn't the best that day

As a tip, there is a hole (think it is the 15th or 16th) that has the a car park directly over a hedge on the right - perfect slicing territory . It was so 'in range' that there were signs up saying that if you hit it over the hedge, you should report to the Pro Shop after your round. Needless to say, I didn't want a costly bill so hit a lovely snapper into the left rough.

Advice - PARK AS FAR AWAY FROM THE HEDGE AS POSSIBLE

This roughly shows where I mean - tee at top-right of picture, car park to the middle.

Car Park

Enjoy though, it is a pretty fun course

Its an OK resort style course, front nine open with rough, back nine more tree lined, water on a few holes, lots of elevation changes, good greens. Two fairway options off of first but not too penal if you knock one into the rough between, plays longer than it looks. Expensive off course.
