I went to the gym last winter, HID got a free corporate card. I wouldn't pay £500 a year to hurt myself.

Very modern gym, lost a bit of weight but did it because i didn't go to the course much last winter.

Young lady instructor asked me if I wanted to join in her cycling class, at that point she bent over to pick her towel up, I thought, i'm gonna have to stop going to the gym cos they ain't made shorts big enough for me to contine.

I'm not dedicated or motivated enough for it TBH. I went when a mate went but never went on my own.

Used to do a lot of running until I knacked my knee.

I think thats why I'm so keen to use HID's free membership as I'll have someone to go with. She only wants to use the running machine and bikes and maybe a swim to tone up a bit. Thats more than good enough for me

Well, as one of the forum fat club guys, I've been to the gym rather a lot over the last three months or so.

However, when your doctor tells you that at 47, an ECG has shown an iregularity with your heart and you end up in front of a Cardiologist for an experts view, then you tend to sit up and take notice and take exercise and diet a bit more seriously.

I'm into a fair amount of bike, treadmill and crosstrainer at the moment. Keeping working for a defined period of time with the heart rate working within certain parameters. Weights are very light, but usually three sets of twelve.
The difference in my muscle tone has been fairly marked. Not going for the bulky look, rather the refined sculpted look !

As can be seen on the Wednesday Weigh In posts, I've worked hard at diet and at my fitness. Hopefully it will help my golf this year, if it does it's only a side effect. I'm doing it because I want to live for a good while longer !

I go to the gym once a week at the moment but vary my work out each time to incorporate cardio, strength, flexibility and balance training among others. I also play a lot of football (about 7 hours a week) so that helps to keep me fit as well.

When doing strength training now though I tend to drop the weight and up the reps for golfing purposes.

I used to be somewhat of a fitness freak and fanatic but to be honest, lost touch with it about 3 years ago when I stopped playing football.

When I was in school, I ran everyday before I went in, and hit the gym when I finished 3 times a week.

College days I spent 5 hours a day training for the marines and after 21 weeks of Marine training, i was pretty much Athlete fit, no kidding.

I have recently got back into training running, Cycling and playing football again.

I got a great work out last night as I decided to take the bike out for a few miles, about 1.5 miles from home at the bottom of the long hill I got a puncture, :( I ran with the bike holding it by the seat, certainly put a spin on things and gave my calfs a great work out. Lots of Cardio work for me for the next couple of weeks as I have a VO2 max (bleep test) coming up and want to go beyond level 12. My P.B is a 15.5 but that is waaaay out of the question!

Since i started to go back 3 times a week have noticed better ball striking and lost about a stone in weight.
rowing machine 2000m
bench press 25kg per side 3 * 10 reps
shoulder press 50,60,70kg 10 reps each
ab crunch 60,65kg 15 reps each
seated jack hammers 20kg dumbell each hand 3*10 reps
running machine 20 mins at various speeds
various other weight machines
try drop sets lift the heaviest weight u can do 5 reps then decrease by half do 10 reps then heavy again 5 reps and so on you start to feel it and notice the difference honest.Weight loss and muscle gain without bulking right up. :)

used to go to the gym a lot. started because they did some 'health checks' at work (blood pressure) and everybody in my department was high - so much so that three went on immediate 24hr monitors, one ended up with a bypass and another two or three are on never-ending tablets.
my mate was turned down by the village gym without a doctor's note so I took the hint and started in my usual bull-in-a-chinashop fashion. (they said start gently - I thought three times in the first week was OK).
lost about 4-stone and three waist sizes until the instructor changed my regime and I started putting on muscle I didn't need - never could get that weight off.
it all ended after an accident on Madiera - I climbed a short way down the cliff to get a good shot of the statue of JC but he wasn't watching over me, I slid a few feet extra and injured my foot. In the doghouse for the rest of the holiday. I thought it would be OK in a couple of weeks - took three months, by which time I'd lost all the edge that I'd gained including the drive to start again almost from scratch. Took a while longer for the weight to come back but most of it now has.
