Hats off Graeme, fantastic year. How does he back it up in 2011.
Prior to his win in Pebble Beach I thought he was over hyped and a bottler.
The guy has certainly proved me wrong.
I admire his trust in his own game, the self confidence he brings on the course, no over the top statements or expectations.
I can only imagine the huge work he puts in, but he certainly has surrounded himself with the "right" people too bring out the best in him.
I think 2011 will be a superb year for him and I would certainly not bet against in a major and a wgc event.
I also hope that he wins the BBC sports person of the year, when the pressure is on he now excels.
What is everyone's else opinion on a transformed golfer. I certainly hope he does not do a P Harrington and get bogged down in swing changes, mindsets etc.
Have a great 2011 GMAC

Two amazing clutch putts will steel the headlines but how he got himself back into contention is the real story. Amazing performance to apply pressure to Tiger. Was so surprised that TW caved like that on day four! I guess there is still work to be done on his mindset and confidence.

G-Mac what a legend!

Fantastic viewing, I even kept young un out of bed to watch. I cheered whenever Gmac hold that putt on the 72nd. I nearly went mad when he holed on the 1st play-off hole. Great win for him. So glad to see Tiger made look like a "normal" golfer. In the past everyone was scared to beat Tiger. Not our Graeme.

Sports personality of the year, HAS TO BE..........

I get up about 5am, so am usually in bed by 10:30, but that was compelling viewing last night. I couldn't go to bed without seeing the result. Hats off to G-Mac for some fantastic play against a very on form Tiger. Holing that putt in the 18th the first time round when Tiger was only a couple of feet away, and then doing it again in the play off, the stuff of dreams.

I thoroughly enjoyed being camped out on the sofa every night since Friday watching this competition, There was some astounding golf played by the European boys during the last 3 days that I watched, including Rory's round with Tiger and some great play early on from Luke Donald, not to forget Casy's hole in one, and some of the stuff Poults played.

European golf is looking very strong at the moment, here's to a good 2011 for them all.

Just knew that McD was holing that putt on 18 to force the play off, I had a Nostradamus moment sitting watching that last night.

I was also very confident Tiger was missing on the first extra play off hole!

I do lottery numbers as well, PM me if interested. :D

Yes a fantastic win for GMac, what confidence in his own ability. Not a great lover of the American commentators but I thought the guy got it right when he spoke about GMac and the time he took to sort out his penalty drop, and what a shot and putt he delivered on the 71st hole.

Wasn't sure about SpoY but I think prehaps GMac just about deserves it now. Great stuff.

To tie this in with another thread............Rory could do with taking a a good look at McDowell and what he did on 17.

Really smart and clear thinking, never rushed his decision and ended up with a realtively (for them) easy pitch. Contrasted to Rory who appeared (to me) to be running around blading chips everywhere so as not to hold Tiger up.

The putt on 18 in regulation was fantastic especially with Tiger in gimme range. Great viewing.

I fell asleep before the playoff started

Terrific from Gmac, simply awesome.

What did Roe and Murray make of it?

Roe- I'm sure Graham wouldnt mind losing this to Tiger, he's simply awesome.

I like skys golf coverage, but last night the sycophancy for TW was ridiculous.

Last night alone was worth paying my Sky sports subscriptions for. Graeme McDowell was fantastic and his up and down on 17 was unbelievable, a well deserved win and next year looks good for G-Mac.
As for Tiger Woods, he needs to get his clubs regripped! Although if he let go of his club at the right time it may well find its way to the crowd and wrap itself around the head of the f*****g plum that shouts "get in the hole!"

Seems like a nice guy, and a very gritty competitor. Not the prettiest of swings, but gets the job done. Can't be accused of being a stack and tilt merchant. :D

I think he knows how to celebrate as well, judging by the time he took off after the US Open win. ;)

McDowell's play on 17 was brilliant. How he saw and then perfectly executed his escape was a real test of clear thinking and calm nerves under pressure. I thought he'd have to take a double drop for 2 penalty shots. Putt on 18 was just too good. Never thought Tiger would win after such a blow. 5 years ago though he would have.

Just been reading how Stevie Williams removed his bib before GMac holed out on the 72nd hole.Classy.

Smiffy does that kind of thing to you, he packs all his clubs up and heads off before you've even looked at your putt.... although he's normally shouting back "Put me down for a blob!"

;)

So what you're telling me is that "The Real Number One" couldn't "close out a tournament" taking a four shot lead into the final round, but the "Pretender" at Number One managed to dominate and win by 8 shots? Is this the Twilight Zone? :D ;)

Never thought Tiger would win after such a blow. 5 years ago though he would have.

Tiger's putt on the playoff hole grazed the edge, he was also closer than McDowell (both times). Tiger played well enough to give himself lots of opportunities that he simply didn't convert, McDowell just dug in, was unshakeable, and simply wouldn't go away! There probably isn't enough money in the world to buy that putter off McDowell at the moment.

McDowell has had an amazing year that all stemmed from the same tournament last year when Tiger didn't play.

Tiger's year was the total opposite and has basically finished as bad as it started with more 'Tiger records' broken (first winless year, highest lead thrown away etc)... you couldn't have written a year like this for both of them, it would be called FICTION. Just amazing.

I think a lot of people will look at 2011 as an anti-climax as I think it will be impossible to surpass what he achieved this year. I think he'll win around the globe and will continue to climb the world rankings. Without a RC and if he doesn't win or retain his major then a lot of casual followers will think he has had his hot year without realising how hard he is working and how good a player he actually is

It was the first time i have seen Tiger look like he is desperate to win, rather than expecting to, he looked like an eighteen handicapper trying to limp over the line in a monthly medal.
On a plus if he gets himself sorted that swing is going to win things

Brilliant watching G Mac tame the Tiger last night. I really hope he wins Spoty.
As for next year I see no reason why he can't move on from this year. At least 2 more tournament wins for him and probably another major or WGC event. Well here's hoping anyway.
