Golfers Elbow

Guy at work had tennis elbow and just could not be bothered in doing the exercises. He then had steroid injections. Finally he had an op to remove part of the inflamed tendon. He said he wished he had carried on doing the exercises.
i have had tennis elbow in both and the exercises and elbow support was fantastic especially the elbow support.

Played about a month ago and seem to have 'this' pain since, rested it and have started to do some exercises but haven't applied any inflamatory cream or taken any tablets but it seems to be gettng worse. Lifting shopping, taking the bin bag out etc I'm getting noticable pain in my left elbow. My back is pretty battered so I'm wondering if the knots under my shoulder blades may be causing some of the pain so going to start on my back roller and practice cricket ball to try ease that pain.

My pain is like a dull ache near the bony bit of your elbow but it's not on the inside it's on the outside of my elbow.

I suffered with golfers elbow quite badly a few years ago. Eventually went to the Doctors and was referred to a Physio. Made bugger all difference. Eventually I was referred for a treatment called PRP in a surgical theatre setting. Haven't really suffered since, although I do manage my playing schedule to minimise the load.

I lost nearly 2 years of playing time because of it. My advice, rest it well when you first feel it and to wear some sort of support.

Watch the video Crow posted, guy explains the diference between Golfers and Tennis Elbow and that flexbar works.

I've been suffering from tennis elbow for a long time ,tried tablets , volteral and elbow stretching bands, finally got the doctor to agree to send me to the outpatients hospital , to have a cortisone injection 😊 ,all I can say is that it works big time for me ,but it's not a long term solution, think they only like givING the injection 3 times a year , after that it could be an operation. 😕

but as some said earlier ,best place to go is the doctors rather than the Internet ,otherwise you could convince yourself you have something totally worse !!!!

got a pain in my right elbow at the moment and had it for at least the last month. seeing the Doc on Thursday. don't get any pain while playing its after and doing anything else.

I've been suffering with tennis elbow for months, similar to golfer's elbow but pain is on the outside of elbow. I mentioned it to a mate at the club and he lent me a Flexbar as shown in the demo the below.

I've been using it for about 3 weeks and already the pain is greatly reduced, it claims to cure it in about 6 weeks....

The difference I've felt already has convinced me and I've ordered one.
You can get them for around £20 to £25 from Amazon or ebay,

I've had a huge improvement since doing the Flexbar exercises, apart from a session where I put too much twist on the bar and aggravated my right elbow. The exercise takes less than five minutes, more like two, and is so easy to do.

Now I'm able to take the club away on the backswing and just get a little pain at the start of the round, before I was wincing and it was affecting my swing, for the money I'd say it's well worth a try.

Thanks for posting the initial link, has sorted me out, cheers

Btw, do not go down the route of those elbow support things. I tried it and it gives you a false sense of security, made it much worse in the end as I was playing rather than resting it.

It's not just golf that does this your type of job also especially a physical one.
My crane was remote control so I had to do my own slinging this was really hard on your arms.
I used a support at work but not for golf.
This is a form of RSI and you need to rest if you can.
since I have finished work it's gone
so you need to look at other things you do as well that maybe causing this.
when I was suffering with golfers elbow I found lifting small objects with thumb and finger was worse than heavy items.

I went to an info evening about golfers elbow a while ago and the physician there said it is mostly caused by problems in the back/neck/shoulders area that put a constant stress on the muscles in the arm as well. Repetetive movements then add to that and as a result the sinews get inflamed (that's the short version ... it was a bit more complicated than that and involved a lot of medical jargon which I can hardly understand in German, let alone translate to English ...). So he was of the opinion that treatment (apart form some pain killers/anti-infamatories to cure the symptons) should be mostly strength training for the muscles supporting the spine/neck. It sounded sensible the way he explained it, but I am already doing Pilates and some weight training for my back and it has not changed a thing.

Andy Carter suggested, I should weaken the grip of my left hand on the golf club a bit (because for me the trouble started when I strengthened my grip about a year ago to get rid of my slice). The pain is not gone away completely yet, but playing with the weaker grip feels much easier on the arm and I have hopes that it will get better in the long run. I just have to be wary that the slice does not creep back in :o I am not sure what's worse: the physical pain of the elbow or the emotional pain of hitting everything to the right.

Don't know whether it's useful or not (haven't watched it) but the most recent Shawn clements vid on YouTube is about golfers elbow. Might be worth checking out for an alternative point of view (he is normally a bit left field)

saw the doc today and mine is Tennis Elbow, apparently according to her, Golfers Elbow is the inside of the arm.

got some exercises to do.

rested it for a week, thought it felt much better. played yesterday, first drive - ouch, as bad as ever.

it's pointless going to the doctor as it will take about 3 months to get a physio appointment. Might have a look at going privately.

Why not try finding a bowen/emmett therapist. Has worked for people at our club.
