I've developed a pain on the inside of my right elbow. Have played the last 3 days on the trot, and it is getting worse. Felt it a lot today, particularly when using the driver. I also get the pain doing more mundane stuff like lifting any kind of weight, or even turning a door handle.

Done a bit of googling and found there is a condition called Golfers Elbow, which sounds very much like what I have got.

Does anyone else suffer from this, and what is the best treatment?

suffered with this for years, finally decided to go to doctors got referred to a physio who offered me two choices, either ultra scan treatment or accupuncture.Choose accupuncture as i'd not tried it before, had twelve half hour sessions (don't know how many needles were stuck in my elbow each time)since then had no problems, but just to play safe i also wear a dual compression epicondylitis clasp which helps to support the tendons somehow

I've been suffering with tennis elbow for months, similar to golfer's elbow but pain is on the outside of elbow. I mentioned it to a mate at the club and he lent me a Flexbar as shown in the demo the below.

I've been using it for about 3 weeks and already the pain is greatly reduced, it claims to cure it in about 6 weeks....

The difference I've felt already has convinced me and I've ordered one.
You can get them for around £20 to £25 from Amazon or ebay,

I'd go to the doctors really instead of self diagnosing from information gleaned off an internet forum.

Voltarol with lots of ice and heat treatment, the doctor won't say much more than that. Exercise I was given by a physio...
Arm out straight, palm facing up, rotate your hand inwards until the palm is almost facing up again, kind of as far as it will rotate and hold it for a few seconds.
For the doubters, a lad at my club was given the same exercise by his doctor, also told to rest it for about 8 weeks and do the voltarol/ice thing. He's fine now and mine is a billion times better.

Also, doctors can prescribe much stronger diclofenac (Voltarol) than you get over the counter and you get a lot more for your money as well.

I think something like 50mg versus 12.5mg.

I bought a load in Spain when I was last over there as they're cheap and available over the counter although I heard recently on the news that they're changing that.

I have had golfers elbow at some pain level for the past 7+ years (both arms) - at its worst I cannot even shake hands without agony.

Currently at the 1 out of 10 pain level which feels great, taken all the anti inflammatories be they pills or gels. Had stronger stuff from the Doc but he really recommends rest and the over the counter gels because you rub them directly at the source of the pain.

Basically hitting the driving range too often has been a trigger and pro also tried to adjust my grip (he has been a sufferer).

When I started going to the gym they gave me a number of extra exercises to do and suggested a few videos with techniques aimed to strengthen around that area of the arms. Has been far better the past 18 months but is always there and my arm strength is certainly weaker as a result.

As described at its most painful (10 on the scale), I have then stopped playing golf for weeks - but one bit of respite I am back !

Thats the challenge of golf for you.

Doc pretty useless for this - last resort was to be cortisone injection but of doubtful benefit.

how long did you rest yours for? 8 weeks not playing doesn't bear thinking about!

I rested mine for 3-4 weeks I think as I was fed up of being in agony, did the gel and ice religiously every dayl. The fella I mentioned plays for the team so just never held a club for November and December, saw him the other week and he said he was much better.

Ah nightmare mate! you mentioned you had a twingey pain towards the end of the round, Hope everything is ok!

I have had pains in both elbows for well over a year and as I understand it I have golfers elbow and tennis elbow.

I'm sure there are ways to get rid if your willing to rest but as I'm not willing to I suffer more when I go to the gym as apposed to golf.

I find its hurts after golf but not during and it hurts in the gym and after,i suppose it comes down to the amount of pain you can put up with without stopping.

I had this years ago , It wasn't just golf but from my work as well .
Bought a clasp for tennis elbow from boots and it helped a lot , fits on the forearm Velcro fastening works by isolating the forearm muscle to stop pain.
Really worked for me haven't had it back since
bit awkward as it got caught on jumper so played in waterproofs for weeks.

I have had a pain in my right elbow for a couple on months now and it goes down my forearm almost to my wrist. It is difficult at times to, say, pick up my laptop with just my right hand but luckily it doesn't seem to restrict my golf swing. Going to have physio on it again on Saturday but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

+1 for the Flexbar method, simple exercises and no need to pop pills, have needles stuck in you or compression bandages wrapped round you.

I have been suffering from pain in my left elbow (well, acutally, the pain meanders around pretty much all of the left arms at times, but seems to originate form the elbow anyway) since November. It started after I got my new lob wedge and probably over-practiced with it one day. I rested it and did not touch a golf club for almost six weeks, because I did not want to risk it getting worse (and, to be honest, in the beginning just holding a golf club was so painful that I wouldn't even consider swinging it and I was a bit freaked). I notice it in some small everyday movements as well, for example when I grab a container of milk from the fridge with the left hand, the pain is ever present, but normally it is quite dull and does not bother me too much. I decided to carefully start playing again during the Christmas holidays and the arm held up better than I thought it would. I was a bit reluctant to hit full shots at first, but loosened up during the round and the arm did not feel any more or less painful than it did when I was not playing. If anything, it even felt a bit better the next day. Oh, and I did use a kind of brace/bandage around my elbow (I have to wear it over my clothes, though, or it will constantly slip down and annoy me)

I also started to go to the gym and do weight training recently (during the phase when I was not playing, because not having anything to do drove me nuts) and there as well, I don't feel the elbow much during training, but sometimes feel a bit more pain the day afterwards. I hope that having better muscles will help it in the long run, though. I started to stretch the arm out regularly and that seems to help as well. As many of my golf friends have suffered something similar in the past and the general gist seemed to be that it is one of those things that takes six month to heal on it's own and half a year if you go to a doctor for treatment, I decided to just ride it out as long as it does not get any worse.

I'm currently suffering with hellish tennis elbow unfortunately rest isn't an option as i do a manual job where I'm digging or using a jackhammer all day. At the worst it hurt holding my clubs in my left arm and could only pick things up with palms facing upwards.
I'm currently trying that kinsinology tape stuff and a deep massage which seems to of helped a bit, but with constantly using my arm in work it won't get a chance to recover as fast as normal
