This is Room 101, why would you not want to get rid of joining fees??Why?

It just seemed strange to me that someone agrees to pay a joining fee then expects to get it back if they leave. This is Room 101, why would you not want to get rid of joining fees??

All well and good, but my memory from watching 'Room 101' on TV was that the concept is selfish by nature and you don't need to give consideration to the grand scheme of things. Just whatever benefits you.Even though they are a barrier to entyr (and a pain) they can serve some purposes. A source of revenue or reserves for clubs. Equally, stops more transitory folk joining and adds stability.
E.g in South Wales we had a group of about 15 phoning clubs and trying to negotiate big discounts in subs. The following year, they'd be off to be lowest bidder again. They were told to "go forth" from our place!

You are entering into a contract, you agree to the terms when you do so.Why?

I had to pay a joining fee recently and hated it.Obviously
I’m saying there must be a better way of engendering loyalty and helping club finances than a money grab at the start.
For me it's an exclusive group and to be honest I don't mind Scottie Scheffler.Any golfer who is better than me
If you can come up with a solution you could become a very popular guyObviously

Thread asked what you'd put in Room 101. Not your opinion of what someone else did!
(yep, I did it too)
Ah - but as was discussed in a thread some time ago - IIRC under WHS a Par/Bogey competition qualifies for handicap purposes and so players do have to play out a hole even when they've lost it (to the course) - so your best shot can count. Back in pre-WHS days once your nett score for a hole couldn't beat par you just picked up.Aimpoint

Par/Bogey competitions - the best shot you hit can potentially count for nothing. What's that all about?
How about building up credit based on money spent in the clubhouse up to the value of your joining fee over the first three years of membership. It doesn’t have to be much - pennies in the pound. If you don’t get to the total value in 3 years you don’t get the money back - if you do it offsets annual subs year 4If you can come up with a solution you could become a very popular guy
Wow does your club still use them? I thought they were a thing of the past.
