Golf Random Irritations

The imbecile who invented the quick lock system for soft spikes should be put up against a wall and shot.

I try and change mine regularly, run the soles under hot water before trying to remove the old ones, and yet it’s still a horrible battle getting them out.

An hour it’s just taken me, with the blistered hands to show for it.

Before you put a new spike in, put a blob of Vaseline on the mechanism. Seems to work for me.

100% - the amount of brute force required to remove one of those things has me sweating and needing a lie down afterwards.

And that’s one of the beauty’s of the Stromberg shoes I have been using. They are a threaded spike so none of the quick lock rubbish. 👍

Golf clubs who can't be bothered to post competition results.

Had a scramble at our place on Saturday with various prizes. 48 hours later, no sign of the results. If you are going to take entry fees from members, then the least you can do is publish the results in a timely manner.

And as if by magic, the results were published 15 minutes after I posted this 🫢

Ours often take four or five days, sometimes longer, before they are published.

During my early Saturday morning 9 holes this weekend I used my 58° LW to plant an approach to 3 feet...club goes back in the bag as usual...
Get the bag out of the car on Sunday to play the Medal and there's a space where the LW should be.
No sign anywhere in the car, clubs hadn't been anywhere else....so I must have used it again, maybe had to take a wedge and a putter to a green or similar...
Borrowed a wedge from the shop, nothing handed in at that time and off I went.
Returned the wedge this morning, still nothing handed in..
And they told me that, apparently, 2 or 3 Vokeys have been "lost" in the last month and none have been handed in.........
Disappointing..........

Always leave on the pathway back to your bag. Or, rest it on the removed flagstick.

Exactly what I do...just don't remember using it or taking it out...still not handed in so not holding out much hope
To be fair it's due for replacement anyway so no great disaster..
I just bought some brand new SM10s. About £40 cheaper each than SM11s. I do this every couple of years when the new Vokeys come out. Buy the previous model but cheaper. Changes are probably mainly cosmetic anyway. I then use my “retired” ones for practice. I always get the same loft and grinds so no real difference.

Couldn’t get a broken one out of a year old pair of Fans. Club shop couldn’t get it out either. Best they could do was glue on one they had cut down…so be it but very irritating.

Slid out of work early today and went to the range. Progress being made hit the ball really well, did some driver work and it was a peach even got it on video hitting 3 consecutive shots of High tee, low tee and off the deck. It was a sight to behold so nice, and no reason to be irritated surely.

Well actually I have, I had a touch of the @Orikoru today. 2 times the bloke in the bay behind me managed to shank one in to my bay over the low net that separates them. Just missing me each time! Both times I was polite enough, then there was the 3rd incident where he managed to roof his driver into the over head beam causing it to ricochet into my bay and his ball missed my face by inches and clanged around whilst he giggled. Let’s just say that wasn’t a polite exchange, he got the hint! But I was wound up by then and despite hitting the ball well I put my clubs in my bag and walked away leaving 20 or so in the basket.

Politely Had a word with the Pro shop on the way out and let them know of my feelings. Just a shame to end a nice day that way.

Yeah, it's hard to relax when you might get a golf ball to the back of the head isn't it??

£40 more is 29% extra, for these Key Differences & Improvements:
  • Consistent Center of Gravity (CG): This is the headline change. While the SM10 had slightly different CG positions based on the grind, the SM11 standardizes the CG for all grinds within a specific loft. This means an S-grind and M-grind in the same loft will feel and flight more similarly.
  • Groove Technology and Spin: SM11 features 5% more groove volume than SM10, achieved through tighter manufacturing tolerances.
  • Directional Face Texture: SM11 introduces a new face texture angled toward the leading edge, increasing friction on partial, delicate shots to improve spin consistency, especially in wet conditions.
err... the SM10's sound better value to me. Or actually you can save yourself another £30 by not paying the Titleist tax, and go for another premium brand like Mizuno.
