Golf Random Irritations

Have you replied and said you want to play? If the other two are wavering then you being positive and wanting to play may swing one or both. Play the psychological game.
Yeah I have told him we are playing and if he don’t want to that’s fine but turn up sign us in pay for us and go home as thats the only reason we want him there.(it’s his club).
I know him well enough for some harsh banter.

I think he is worried we may not enjoy it but we can hardly blame him for the weather (although we will do)

I guess you're using it on Windows, so what follows may not be exactly the same for you, as I use it on Linux...

At the left end of the column titles (eg. From, Subject, Date, etc) there's an icon that looks like this:

Clicking it toggles threaded view on/off.
I appreciate this isn't really the appropriate page, but just to close off this conversation. The Windows + Thunderbird Thread selection is in Settings/Appearance/View .

Can‘t complain : A sunny day with blue skies and almost 20°C over here … ! 🤷‍♀️ 😊
P. S.: The Photo was taken on wednesday, but it‘s just the same today … ! ;)

My complete lack of ability to resist playing this godforsaken game.

I've been really struggling with my game for the last few weeks, not scoring above 27 points in what feels like forever.

The course is pretty muddy and really could have done with a week or two off itself. I can only imagine it's going to be in a right state come the summer.

However, I'm absolutely sick of range balls so what have I done? I have nothing else to do at the weekend so I've booked into the Saturday and Sunday comps  Because maybe this week will be different, right? 😭

I'm not really worried about scoring when the conditions are as they are, I don't put cards in or anything in winter. I will have to play my first comp of the year on March 8th though I think, as I need eight on my record and I'm running out. So I guess it's time to start caring...

I haven't been to the football in a few weeks. If I'm :poop: at golf again this week, that's what I'll be doing next.

So, this is my major golfing irritation actually.

I used to play most winter stablefords under the old handicap system, as they were often non-qualifiers or “cuts only” - which I believe was standard.

These days, our winter stablefords are qualifying competitions, so I don’t bother. I’m not at all interested in having my handicap for the summer months dictated by winter golf. My last qualifying round was 4th October.

The winter stablefords have often been impacted by the weather, there’s temps or trolley restrictions, and they get turned into a non-qualifier. Therefore the field is full of people who wanted to post qualifiers so they’re upset, and all the people who didn’t want to play are sat at home and they’re upset they didn’t enter.

I feel like I lose out on playing golf as a result of this compared to the old ways. I also feel like the above results in essentially no one being satisfied? Surely this is not ideal for anyone, and is there not a better suggestion for winter comps, like people having a choice over whether they want it to qualify or not?

We’ve in the last two weeks felled two mature conifers…they stood very close together by themselves with no other conifers insight, on an otherwise open slope way short and very wide of our par 3 3rd’s green. Oh the sound and fury coming from some. How could they; what vandalism; horrendous; where was that in the winter work plan or the plan for the new 2nd hole; disgraceful…

No…I’m not irritated by the removal of two out of place and pointless (from a golfing perspective) trees…it’s the whining and moaning…the confected outrage that irritates me. But as it comes from the usual suspects I can hear it - get irritated, then cast their whinging aside.

We used to have lots of Leylandii trees on the course and had a programme to remove them all.
A couple of seniors did not like the fact we were felling mature trees and contacted the forestry commission about, the commission came up to investigate, liked what we proposed so much they gave us a grant to do it.

Why don't you carrry out an experiment to prove your point? Dig up your garden this weekend and chuck grass seed down on Sunday (1st March). Then let's see if it's ready to be used as a tee box in 3 or 4 weeks. You can post a photo update on here every week, I'm sure it will be popular. You could even start your own youtube channel to document the progress.

A few years back one of our green keepers came up with a seed that put the tees back in to play really quickly (something like Canadian Tip Dwarf) .

Sadly our new man had never heard of it when we did the last lot of tee renovation.

I would have thought it's impossible to have competitions where you could choose if it is qualifying or not. Looking at scores for qualifying competitions at our club this winter, they are on average 2 or 3 shots higher, but nothing drastic.
