Golf Random Irritations

None of the guys I know who have a doctors note actually saw the doctor, no appointment was required, just a request via reception, pay the fee and you get the letter.

It’s a bit of a palaver, but the fee which is generally £40-£50 will act as a deterrent for those who don’t actually have a medical issue but can’t be bothered carrying.
So basically, it's a tick box exercise with zero merit. You can probably print one off the internet, it's worth as much 🤣

So, they turn away business in the summer and have buggies not getting used unless you have a doctors note?
I haven’t used a buggy for a long time but would be tempted on a very hot day.

Well they don’t “turn business” away - all societies and guests are aware at the time of booking that they need a medical note before hiring a buggy

Behave! So if a member, say you, have a couple of hours to spare and to maximise the time you’d like to hire a buggy, you’d need a doctors letter? Surely that’s losing the Club income for no reason?

The member can walk or use a trolley 🤷‍♂️

There are some clubs in the area that only have two single seater buggies and very rarely let them out

Because it’s a tight course in a lot of places and wanted to reduce the amount of traffic used mainly by the two seater buggies

Not sure why it’s miserable
It's miserable because you are excluding people with limited mobility. If you can't see that you are missing the benefits of the social aspect of a game of golf.

For reference, you don't need a doctor's note to play in a buggy at my club. Whether socially or in a comp.

Our Club struggled with the buggy v trolley v carry issue for a few years. We wanted to be absolutely fair to all and recognise the implications of the 2010 Disability Act - if a course is open, it should be accessible to all, irrespective of ability to carry or need/want to use a buggy or trolley.

The solution that has been working really well for us for the past two winters, is that anyone can use a buggy or a trolley when the course is open but it must keep to the rough ie 90 deg rule.

No one is excluded?

If they have limited mobility then they just need to prove that they need a buggy

No one is excluded

We have a buggy policy in line with EG and Health and Safety policies
