Golf Random Irritations

Which is why I will be leaving at the end of the season.......and likely joining another club fairly soon. I do not agree to giving up my basic rights just to play golf. If I pay my taxes.....am I allowed to complain about the Govt?
If your next club knew you had been complaining about your previous club online they might not accept you as a member.

I'm a member at 2 clubs at the moment. My hope would be to join the first club I was a member at. If they didn't want me for some reason (like I complain)....I can live with that. I can live without golf. If the only way I can play golf is to be in a situation where I have to keep my mouth shut and not even think about complaining......well, my golfing days are done.

You are ok with the no swearing though at least 👍

Then it will be the clubs choice to remove your membership 🤷‍♂️

Do people expect to be able to say whatever they want without any repercussions?

Can people say whatever they want about employers ?

If someone has an issue with the club then as with anything follow the correct channels and speak to someone within the club - a club will not allow members to damage their reputation
I have no issue with that! If I want to speak my mind in person or online I will as that is my right!

I can say what I want about my employer and often do are there repercussions sometimes but if it’s my honest view I stand by it.

If I have an issue with a club I do go through the correct channels , but I will not sign up to and pay £1000s into a club or anything that removes my right to openly speak my mind.

You might take issue with that I really couldn’t care because it’s my right to openly speak how I feel, it’s your choice to do otherwise ! It really isn’t open for debate you cannot make someone do what they don’t want to do whether you like it or not. It’s up to me as an individual to accept the consequences of those actions and I wholeheartedly do!

So what’s the issue 🤷‍♂️

People are not being told they can’t say anything but they expect members to act in a manner befitting of a code of conduct they put in place

Then it’s up to people how they act

That’s the same in all walks of life - that’s no different to this forum

With free speech comes responsibility- free speech doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want without any consequences

I don’t have an issue I merely replied about someone is free to say what they want. You went on to raise the issues of club can remove you, can people
Say what they want about their employers etc!

I never said I had an issue, i never said you can’t say what you want without consequences, in my first post about this matter I said he’s entitled to free speech so can say what he wants and my last post I simply replied to your questions!

You’re the one reading into things how you want to justify your opinion being right. I merely pointed out there is no debate you can’t make someone not say or do things just because you( by that I mean club, work etc) ask them to! Anyway I’m sure you’ll reply as you’ll need the last word once again 👍

I would imagine it is just a case of a club looking to cover themselves incase things really kick off with a member.
I’m sure if you put the fairways could do with a cut then nothing would happen.
If you was to say the club was full of cheats and the treasurer is creaming money off the top then I would expect to be asked to explain myself.

A lot of it is coming from England Golf as well with requirements to have policies put in place

This is one , along with Safeguarding, Data Protection etc

Most of it is part of the Club First recognition and every club will have policies and Code of Conducts in place

You only have to look at the squabble on Facebook that’s been discussed here how things can go to extremes.

I think most clubs and most members are sensible enough for it not to get out of hand but understand a need for the clubs to protect themselves to a degree against the occasional idiot.

I joined my first golf club in 1990. There's always things on here that have never been an issue or an occurrence in the past 35 years. Have I just been lucky?

If I had an issue with a club, I'd walk in and talk to the GM or Chairman. I make the odd sarky comment on here, if the club management object, they can speak to me about it. Life's too short to worry about it.

If you dont like your club, take your cash somewhere else. There's several thousand to choose from 😁

What happened on Facebook ?

I would be curious to see how that would turn out if it went to court (which would be my right as a member if the club actually tried to expel me for that reason)! 😁

Nota bene: Freedom of speech is one of the most fundamental basic rights! 🤔

I don't think the club would stand a chance! 👎

BTW, of course I am allowed to speak negatively about my employer! It just can't be humiliating or anything like that and – very important! – it has to be factual, i.e. true, and the employee should be able to prove it (for his/her own protection).

@Arthur Wedge: I think you're seeing the issue too much in black and white. In my humble opinion, you're wrong in taking such an extreme view.

In reality, I think we are all much closer to each other than it seems.

I assume that no one here would vent their feelings online in a vulgar manner at the slightest provocation. In fact, I suspect that most people would first address any problems internally, as you wish. But if the club tried to sweep the issues under the rug, simply sit them out, or even attack me personally because of it, I see no reason to continue to follow the official channels.

Responding to this with statements such as “Then find yourself another club!” is in fact what Trump is trying to do in the US (and I very much hope he doesn't get away with it, because it would affect us all! ) and, in my humble opinion, is simply “bullying.”
