Golf Random Irritations

I 100% agree with this.
Have more prizes spread further down if you want a decent prize pot.
If you gave a small trophy to the winners and the top 10 got their money back and a free round for the future you would weed out those that are cheating just to win something.

Most are playing for the enjoyment of getting on a course they don’t play regularly for a cheaper green fee and a day out with friends but only takes 1 cheat to spoil the day for everyone
If you are only playing for a cheap round on a new course, why would prizes matter at all? Also, if all you want is a day out with friends, how does the cheat affect this?

Not advocating cheating at all, before someone tries this line!

It just grates. You know that your money has gone to the cheat.

I'm fine with my money going to an honest person, not to a cheat though.

Simple because although we are there for a good day out we all have a competitive side.

You want to feel before it starts that you have a fair chance, the same chance as everyone else.

But at the ridiculous value of £15 green fee for an Open I'm gonna guess its not actually your money that the cheat picks up :D (but I get what you mean)

Played with a guy last week who had just played in an open locally. They needed to provide photo ID upon registration. Apparently to address the risk of a low handicapper turning up at an away club and impersonating his higher handicapper mate. Not sure if that scenario had arisen previously or if it was just protection against it happening.

What a sad state of affairs in this sport that is often lauded for being self regulating.
Would be interested in knowing which open to let friends know.

Another one for the list yesterday. 18 points / 5 over out, 14 points / 9 over in. I'm starting to expect it now.
Getting tired/hungry/distracted/over excited?

Might be worth trying to see if you can pinpoint a cause so you can try and address it. Might be something as simple as having a bite to eat halfway to keep the energy up.

It could be something as simple as Ori handicap being wrong or maybe the course is rated incorrectly.

I wonder if he has ever considered that 🤔😂

I have an energy drink before the round, and protein bars after 6 and 12 holes so possibly not the first two. I drink a litre of water, but maybe that isn't enough. I guess it is hard to mentally focus 100% on every single shot for four hours though. Recently when it comes about I'm seeming to lose my swing a bit and start hitting slices out of the heel of the club for a couple of holes. I need to come up with a swing thought or a process that gets me out of that quicker.

Be interested in what energy drink. Could be a sugar or caffeine crash. I love a cheeky can of sugar free goth juice but wouldn’t have one before a round. What do you eat before you play or is it just the drink.

I have Tenzing, so no or minimal sugar in it. I'm actually looking at a can now, and it has the words "All the energy. Without the crash." written on it, so I'm sure they wouldn't lie.

Breakfast varies. Often I go to Wenzels and get a sausage/bacon bap. This time though I didn't bother since I had a takeaway the night before.. just had a pack of Belvitas.

Maybe you need a dirty fry up and 8 pints of Guinness before you play,
The score will be the same but you will be to drunk to care 😂

Never tried Tenzing any good 🤔

To be fair that’s small breakfast for a lot of walking could well be you just need a few more calories to prevent an energy crash.

Or you just have a harder 9 holes.

Might just be the back nine is tougher.
My course is like that there’s a lot more trouble on the back nine.
About half the time we start on the 10th though.

I like it, and I have a bit of a scam to get it 40% off from their website, so I order boxes of it and stick them in the fridge. I used to like Monster Ultra but my missus convinced me change to something a bit more 'natural' energy. Or so they claim.

I don't like eating too much before a round as I feel lethargic then. And as mentioned, I top up with protein bars after 6 and 12 holes.
