Golf Random Irritations

Three over front nine yesterday, followed by 5 points in 5 holes and didn't make another par until the 17th & 18th. End up 12 over and one shot above getting a cut. How does the good golf just leave us so suddenly??
This again, with bells on. 😠

Edit: my last three front nines - 5, 3 and 3 over. Last three back nines - 9, 8 and 9 over.

The price of golf equipment! o_O
I very rarely go into golf shops these days as I pretty much have everything I need, but my missus was going to look at clothes so I dropped into my local Affordable Golf as I am considering changing my hybrid, and possibly my 5 wood.
The pricing of some equipment is obscene! £499 for a driver, and the same for a putter! For a lump of metal on the end of a stick! I know there is technology and development in the gear, but there is also a huge percentage of taking the p!ss.
Like in the golf ball thread, will the average golfer really see that difference in a £500 driver? And a putter at £500 when it is more about technique than the equipment?
In the end I bought a "second hand" (looked like new) Wilson Launchpad hybrid for £65 which felt fantastic to hit and seemed, on the simulator, to hit the ball straight.
And when did golf bags get so expensive? And why?
Golf membership is expensive enough without these prices. And people are daft enough to buy the next big thing, or a brand because it is one of the big brands.

Prices have gone up with everything

The materials to make the kit have gone up so those costs get passed down

Someone somewhere is get rich

Covid was used as an excuse for stuff getting expensive then the Ukraine/Russia situation

Everything’s expensive now not just golf gear.
A Freddo is £1.10 p
Now that’s a shock 😉

Have you not read any golf features, this forum, etc in the last 5-10 years? I am shocked that you are only just being shocked by the prices :ROFLMAO:

To be honest, not many. As I said, I pretty much have everything I need so I don't tend to really pay that much attention.
And even then when you see it in store at list it still comes as a shock. I tried out a £499 putter. It was nice, but not £499 nice.
So often there is a list price and then it gets discounted. My annoyance is that these inflated prices are now seen as "the norm" and a "bargan" or "good value" driver of putter is still £300.
Excellent work by the manufacturers to let the market accept this.

Prices have gone up with everything - I agree, and I see that in my shopping cart. But that does not make these prices any less ridiculous

The materials to make the kit have gone up so those costs get passed down - And I think that is why manufacturers have taken it as an excuse to increase their prices above their cost base

Someone somewhere is get rich - And there we have the main driver (sic!)

Covid was used as an excuse for stuff getting expensive then the Ukraine/Russia situation - Again true, but a lot of this kit is made and assembled in China

Look, to all, I know that everything has gone up in price, but the level of increase, and the way the market just blindly accepts it, is what really annoys me. The manufacturers are taking the mickey and everyone is happy to accept it.

Embrace the second hand market. Clubs, balls, all out there second hand and do the job. If you are not bothered about fitting, it's fine.

Now, second hand prices have also gone up from what they were pre covid but you can box clever still.

Exactly what I do. That's why I picked up the Wilson Hybrid at £65 and ordered 2 dozen Wilson Triad at £50. I'll be doing the same when I look at a replacement fairway.
My current fairway and hybrid are Cleveland Classics which I bout for £30 and £50 respectively second hand and they have served me very well.

I wandered into HotGolf a couple of weeks ago while I was home, this used to mean I'd wander back out with a few things I didn't really need but had "£20 burning a hole in my back pocket" but I was "shocked" at the prices, which probably shows how little golf stuff I've bought since moving to Poland, golf is expensive over here life in general is cheaper (not as much as it used to be) but golf was very much a very rich man's game but it seems the prices in the UK have caught up.

Not disagreeing at all with you

It’s always worth looking at second hand with clubs for cash

Get some very good deals with them

Seniors Open 4BB comp today, so far 4 visitors have put GP cards in.

How often do they do this and not get picked up?

If the players are using an app probably very rarely.

The only time I picked it up was when doing the card recording for one of our opens when one of the players asked for his card back to put in his score on the app.
I refused and pointed out he should not be doing but noticed he simply got the scores off his mates card and all 4 from the same club were doing it.

This is like emails I send at work and they come back with red pen all over it.
