Golf Random Irritations

Since April 1st this year, members at my club have submitted a total of 4,139 GP scores, of which 731 have been from "away" clubs. So a tad over 82% of scores are home scores.

So I'd say the impact would be very high.

I have never put a GP card in from my home course. I have never played with anyone putting in a gp card at the home club either. There are plenty of qualifying comps, everything else is matchplay for the drinks...

Is this unusual?

Not unusual that you have not played with anyone putting a GP card in at their home course, but there many golfers these days who put GP cards in frequently from their home course. Difficult to say how many as it varies but I would have a stab at 15 or so per day. Most I am sure are following all the rules but a minority, who knows how significant, do not.

It really depends on how often the "bad shot" happens. If its repeated across a number of rounds then I'll take my issue to the pro to fix.

However...if they are things that happen out of the blue for no apparent reason...maybe a couple of bad shots in a round or a practise session....yes I do ignore them.....I try to focus on the things that are working, rather than try to diagnose what has suddenly happened and may not happen again.

As an example...on the range there are occasions that I shank a ball with a wedge...just totally out of the blue......on the rare occasions that it happens....after a couple of shanks, I don't try to fix the issue, I put the offending club back in the bag, pull out something different, hit a few shots with it and a few other clubs...and then go back to the wedge....hey presto, the shanks have gone and I hit perfect wedge shots for the rest of the session. I cant remember the last time I shanked a ball off grass....but off the range astroturf it sometimes happens...but I dont worry about it as I know it is not normal.
I do that in the practice nets ( shank) but never on the course .
Very strange feeling

Why does this happen ?

If that’s the case then they could use a screen at their home club and not need an App.!

We have plenty of qualifying comps but, if you analyse the data, you see an obvious inverse relationship in that folks who regularly play comps rarely submit GP scores, and those who submit a lot of GP scores never play in comps.

In our group of 16 two guys regularly put in GP cards.

More evidence that they should improve the App.
Not sure that a high number of GP rounds played at players home course is evidence of anything really.

The best improvement would be to restrict the number of GP rounds to 1 per week....but that's not an "app issue".

Although it's a minority who are abusing the system I can't help feeling that anyone who puts in a GP card is looked at with suspicion and their HI scrutinized....
I probably put in handicap cards in the ratio of 5 GP : 1 Comp partly because we, as a club, are not competition heavy and partly because I play most days...
I do feel a bit "got at" for it.
It's a minority, and probably a very small minority, that abuse the system.
Please don't rar those of us who follow the rules with the same brush as the few that don't...

Can't recall putting in a GP score since my first three cards for handicap.
Never really play medal play in social golf, occasional Stableford on unknown courses but that's about it.

Pins at the front of greens, now that my stock 50 yard chip shot has decided to only go about 45 yards.

Note to self: stop trying to be cute, just get it somewhere on the green.

My place has stopped members and visitors being able to sign in for GP via EG app. They have to go into the pro shop and use the terminal to show sign of intent to do the card.

Think in the past they have had people inflate handicaps for knockout competitions etc.

You can’t really on the PSI to be 100 % up and working all the time

Imo the EG should only be used at away courses

At home courses people should only use the clubs ISV
It’s not the end of the world though if the PSI isn’t working some days it’s only a GP card.

The APP is causing all the trouble imo making it to easy to cheat the system.

Golfers most are genuine lots are not !
Just don’t make it easier for them.
