Golf Random Irritations

Ignore the shot - I'm posting this to show the state of our bunkers - most are like this. Clearly any drainage systems have completely failed. We've had no rain all summer. A few hours of heavy rain on Sunday, then a little bit yesterday, and this is what we've got all round the course. I've always felt like our membership fees have been fair, but, these bunkers will be pretty much out of play now until May, if we have anything like the usual amount of rainfall.

I could go all Yorkshiremen and say something like "well YOU at least have sand....all we've got is a gravel pit mixed with boulders".

Why did you even hit from there? I'd be calling that ground under repair. 😂

To make a point. All the bunkers are GUR, but quite often, the drop area compromises you more than playing off the sand - especially if it's a fairway bunker where you could find yourself playing from a hanging lie etc.
I actually took relief from a fairway bunker on our 3rd on Sunday - without even giving a thought to playing it from the sand. Dropped it into a shitty lie with a poor stance - the bunker would have been the much better option in hindsight.

Jesus's H Christ....I've just seen Rory's putt from last week 4 times in 40 seconds....
This was last week, last tournament.....

And hearing McGinley dribbling over it stating it’ll be shown on TV for the next 50-100yrs 😒

I'm having a few months off golf club membership after the expiry of my most recent one last month.
I will still be playing the odd round so I've taken out golf insurance. The policy offered five 2 For 1 green fee vouchers.

Pals and I spent the last 3 days in Notts and played 3 rounds of golf at different courses.

The vouchers arrived at home while I was away.

The vouchers can't be used at any courses near where I live in Herts.
They can be used at all the courses we just played in Notts.

Has anyone else got a mate who loves a course-complaint when they hit bad shots?

Mine is 23 handicap, he doesn't play that often anymore, but he can still play to it on a good day. Anyway, we played on Tuesday, and he hit a very bottom-groove low-launched drive that ran into a fairway bunker, that was about 160 yards to the front of it. After the hole (which he blobbed) he started a rant about how stupid fairway bunkers are (which he has said before), claiming he'd been punished for a 'good drive' and it's not fair. I pointed out that it was only about 170 to carry and the idea is that you're supposed to hit your drive over it. No, not having it, he thought he'd hit a perfectly good drive and been punished unfairly.

Later on there was a hole with signs up by the tee telling you to make sure you shout fore if you go left, because there are houses/gardens there that you can't necessarily see - and that you need to report to the pro shop if you do hit one there. He then tops his drive and then starts moaning about the overly officious signs that got in his head and put him off. I love him, and honestly it's more funny than irritating, but seriously. Just own the fact you hit a bad shot man. 😂 The head-demons are real.

I have a mate exactly like this! Played 2 weeks ago with him, kept slicing his tee shots however it was the course set up that was the problem why do they put all the trees on the right side of the course! (It was tree lined left and right) not his fault knowing he slices it and still aiming without allowing for it.

Fairway bunkers are stupid what’s the point if you can’t hit over them! The point is hit it short of them or hit enough club to get over them he didn’t accept that answer because it’s the fault of the course being set up like that not his for not choosing right clubs.

My personal favourite was he knows he only hits a 9 iron about 110 yards. We played a par 3 that was 120 yards with water short at about 110! So he hits his 9 iron, it goes 110yards and lands in the water! Moans ridiculous set up putting water at 110yards, then moans at me for hitting a Gap Wedge saying how can I get away with hitting that club but he hits a 9iron into water. Clearly I got lucky and the course isn’t set up for him, I couldn’t be bothered to point out I hit it further and that instead of hitting the club he knows goes the exact distance the hazard is away he should have hit the 8 iron and he’d have been safe.

It’s got the point I can’t be bothered playing with him so that was my last round with him for the foreseeable future.

Think we all have the same mate 😂

Mine always moans about going in fairway bunkers even if he hits a good drive. I tell him that courses are set up so that fairway bunkers are usually at average driver distance so bring them into paly, therefore by going in one you have actually hit a shot that the course expects you to hit.

He also moans when he pushes a short putt right and blames the green 😂

Had some friends from the US here for the last few days so haven't played any golf. They left for the coast a little after 9am this morning. Started raining as they left......constant for 1.5hrs and flooded all the greens at the course so we didn't bother even starting. Good hard rain which we needed.....but it would be nice if it did this at 10pm.....

Booked for a medal today but the weather forecast wasn't great. I rolled up at the course in the middle of a downpour. Waited in the car till it stopped and didn't bother getting anything out of the car but just walked to the pro shop. The medal had been abandoned 5 minutes earlier due to flooding. Still, at least I didn't get caught in it.

We all scratched from golf this morning. The weather has vindicated the decision. 😉
Wrong side of the bridge 😉, I got to the club at 9 this morning and left at about 2.30 and it was unbroken sunshine the entire time. Sat outside having a drink afterwards.
Having said that the forecast was for 80%+ rain all day, same forecast yesterday, a mate played a 36 hole final and got just a couple of minutes of rain.
Just checked and since midnight only 0.2mm of rain in Filton.
