Golf Random Irritations

Seen worse !

Whilst I would share the OP's annoyance over unranked bunkers it does occur to me that it's only sand that we expect to be in perfect condition.

We accept that lies in the rough will be what nature gives us but not bunkers.

What is the difference? Both are, in a general sense, hazards and thus somewhere to penalise a misplaced shot.

Always amazes me that some golfers are free and easy with the dress code rules but if you try and nudge a ball out of a divot in a friendly round, they will rush over from 3 fairways away and want to ban you for life :ROFLMAO:
I think it’s because dress codes are not part of a thing where the person breaking the rules gets to win my money.

Just read the pretty short dress code for home club and we’re supposed to be shirt tucked in. I often have it tucked in but not unusual if I wear it untucked too (depends on the design of the shirt)
I guarantee when I play tomorrow I’ll see it breached plenty of times and there’ll be no enforcement. If I ask there’s some of the staff & many players who won’t have read it & no one will go up to a player to request they tuck it in.
That doesn’t mean there’s any kind of player anarchy though. Despite someone writing the dress code it’s just not a day-to-day thing. I suppose it exists in case its needed for someone going way over the mark i.e beachwear & flip flops on the course

We changed our dress code

Nice and simple

Wear appropriate golf clothing

If you want that tucked in or out - up to you

Whilst I respect your right to look a plonker whilst wearing a cap, I dispute the "more comfortable" argument. The shape and structure of the part of the cap that is in contact with your head is the same, regardless of whether it is worn properly or back to front. Therefore the comfort element is unchanged. The only possible explanation is that you may be distracted by the peak when wearing the cap properly, but this is nothing to do with comfort.
Wear your shoes on the wrong feet or underpants on back to front then let us know if the comfort element has remained unchanged.

Anyone who thinks about what someone else is wearing to play golf is just odd. If you get annoyed or angry about it you are just weird. If you’ve ever had a word with someone about dress codes then you probably need to be on some kind of watchlist 🤣

As underpants and shoes are shaped to fit a certain way your comparison is way off the mark :ROFLMAO:

I think my issues about people adhering to dress codes stems from 30+ years in the military. Even though I have been out 5 years, I still cringe when I see RAF blokes with beards and women with their hair in pony tails. My problem also crosses over into other sports, I get annoyed with footballers with tiny socks and those who cut their socks to 'relieve pressure' on their calves are beyond help.

Who defines what is appropriate? That could vary depending on who is in charge each day.

I know what is meant but it's a bit woolly.

this is what we have

On the golf course, Leighton Buzzard Golf Club asks members, their guests, and visitors to observe

standards of dress consistent with the traditions and conventions of the game of golf, whilst taking account

of current golf fashion. For the avoidance of doubt, this means appropriate tailored clothing as would be

purchased in a golf retail outlet
excludes blue denim jeans, tracksuits, training shoes or combat trousers

So it’s it’s made by a golf manufacturer then it can be worn , that includes pockets on shorts , joggers , shirts without collars , no need to tuck them in

Trying to make it as simple as possible and expecting people to use common sense

Well I must be an anomaly as a still serving man in the military I love a backwards hat, couldn’t careless if someone has a shirt untucked on a golf course, big fan of the collarless style golf shirt.

Couldn’t careless about a pony tail but if a bloke has a beard at least make it a proper one and tidy, I see so many people look scruffier without beards and shaving rash everywhere 👌

Sounds like the most sensible dress code I’ve ever come across.

Thank you - nicest thing anyone has said to me 😂

And yep it was me and our captain at the time who sorted it
Well play nice and might give you another compliment 😉

Genuinely though couldn’t be simpler to understand.

Did you buy it in a golf shop, or in a shop selling golf attire ? Yes - Wear it

Is it made by a golf manufacturer? Yes - Wear it

Genuinely can’t go wrong!

Obviously didn't get beasted in basic training like I did :ROFLMAO:

Oh I have hugged many trees, crawled through many puddles, waded through lakes, been thrashed within an inch of my life for not running at the pace of 1000 gazelles and for having a thread in the wrong place on my uniform.

But here I am nearly 25 years into a military career and still forward thinking, backwards cap wearing, forming my own opinion. Go figure 🤷🏻😂

Oh mummy daddy... I have a beard and often put it in a 'ponytail' when I'm playing golf... I've no idea if this is right thing to do or if I'll see you down below one day  :D
