Golf Random Irritations

Mine two. Had four really good knocks in last five rounds…and with a medal coming Sunday I should be feeling +++ve, and I should be able to get my HI down to 6.0, maybe even 5.9…and that would equate to my best ever handicap (looking at what medal PH it would give me at my previous club where I had that lowest ever).

But the dark cloud of dire inevitability hangs over me…so must try and dispel it.

A Saints win over the Red Lichties on Saturday will help, plus I must view every day on the golf course as a privilege, not an entitlement, and be grateful for that, and indeed all that I have in life. There…feel better already 👍🙂

Nb…betcha nobody outside Scotland will know who the Red Lichties are and why.
After your H4H victory you're the form horse.
The Surrey Scheffler!

One big storm isn't going to make much difference.

What we need is constant light rain for weeks.
(Preferably every night, and stopping during the day, of course).
That's what I'd do if I could control the rain. I decided on 1 hour of decent rain every evening from 10-11pm. It would be soaked in by the time I wanted to play golf. A couple of weeks of that and we'd be pretty well off. But I'll take even a decent day or two of rain if that storm gets over here like I have requested......if the God's are listening.....

Every time I enter a pairs competition in IG it charges me for both players rather than charging me my fee and him his fee. Surely they can set it to charge the appropriate person??

No wonder you were "spitting feathers" when you paid for me on Saturday
😂

Are you both members? Ours would only take it from my account if i was playing with a guest for an open competition. When I do a pairs competition at the club it'll take it from both members. If the other person doesn't have enough on their account then I will get a message to say.

Yes he's also a member!

Yes they can set it to take the money per player who is entered
I thought they must be able to. Maybe they don't know!

I've no idea how that process works but maybe the club/s choose to only charge the 'submitter' since that's the only one they've actually engaged with?

Previously you could only charge the card of the person doing the booking

They change the settings to be able you to charge either the person doing it booking the whole teams fee or charge each persons card

Yeah I wondered if there was any step in the remote booking process that allows the other player/s to give consent to be charged the fee (if not it might make sense for some clubs to just charge the person booking)

edit: i.e if I book a 4-ball tee time I'll get the email with the full amount due, the others just get a tee time booking email

It’s in the comp or tee booking T&C’s for us

Says that for a “guest” fee etc the lead booking pays for everyone on booking

For comps highlights that money will come from each persons card

Yeah I can see how that would be useful. Unless/until its challenged by 'other players' because they never actually saw or agreed to the T&C (but it could be covered in their membership agreement I guess)

Yes they can.
"They" being the club, as this is an option chosen by them in the comp signup settings (entry fees can be setup as either 'per team' or 'per player').

Our place used to take the cash off the account of the member making the booking, but had that many complaints about it they switched it so that all fees come from the individual member’s cards.

I wasn’t alone in constantly having to top my card up and then chase partners for entry fees because they can’t be arsed to make the booking.

I’m maybe overthinking it or making a bigger deal of it than it is, but my thought was… if an added person on the booking is charged a fee lets say £25 and that transaction makes them overdrawn at bank and bank add their OD charges etc, the club need to protect themselves from that eventually or they may be liable for reimbursing the banks overdrawn charge if they didn’t even have an agreement to purchase from each player

As I said I’m well outside the process so could be blowing it out of proportion

The money needs to be on their competition account via IG. It isn't linked to their bank card directly.

It's only charging their IG credit, which they top up themselves at the bar as and when they like. If you go overdrawn on there it just says a minus number in your club credit, and you'll add money next time you're at the club.
