Golf Random Irritations

Had an incident today I never thought would happen! Playing Uttoxeter today swing was still all over the place apart from a few holes. One of those holes being the Par 4 9th hole at 370yards.

Absolutely striped a drive dead centre of the fairway probably my best all day due to shape of the hole I literally had an 80yard SW into the green for my approach, played it pretty well just to left of the pin. Only to then see someone walk across our green stop, look around and pick up my ball before walking off!myself and PP both shouted to him but either he was deaf or purposely ignored us and walked off to tee off on to the 3rd hole which is down near the back of the 9th!

By the time we reached the green he’d teed off hurriedly and was scooting up the 3rd hole. So had to place a ball down nearest where both myself and PP saw it finish. Eventually caught up with the thief when we were on the 16th tee and he was on the 11th as the tees are pretty much back to back and had it out with him even pointing out what ball I played and the markings. He gave the ball back and just said “thought someone had left it as couldn’t see anyone around” not even a sorry!! Then he just walked off down the 11th! Worst part turns out he’s a member there and should know better !!

Why do you pay for skycaddie?

Genuine question
I know there are apps available that do the same thing, but they dont half drain your phone battery (Iphone 13)
The skycaddie when fully charged will give me at least 4 rounds before it needs recharging,

im used to it, know its quirks and it does the job I want it to do

and im an auld phart who likes things as they are (y)

You do wonder how some people have made it that far in life don't you? I had similar in a Greensomes comp once, the other pair we were playing with had pitched onto the green, and someone playing the adjacent hole just walked across and picked it up. We asked him what he was doing and he said "oh sorry yeah, I just hit here off the 13th tee". Err no you didn't, that's ours. They still tried to argue that they were right for a minute as well. It was bizarre. 😆

So, further to the Skycaddie sub renewal fiasco………

I got a renewal email 10 July, checked the expiry date said 10/8/25
So just assumed that the date was in the US format and made a note to renew before 10 August.

Paid for the renewal, but couldn’t activate it, spoke to customer services, who said that the date was in UK format and my subscription doesn’t run out until 8/10/25 8 October,

So why are they sending out the renewal 3 months early , when you can’t activate it until the old one expires

Madness

I’m still half expecting it to expire on 10 August, coz I’m not sure they know where their elbows are 😡

Glad it’s not just me it’s happened to then! Couldn’t fathom why he’d done it especially as going onto the 9th green is nowhere near where he’s be walking from the 2nd green to the 3rd tee as they’re literally next to each other. Would’ve had to go out of his way to walk up the hill from the 3rd to to where we were playing. Got a feeling he was cutting about different holes but got caught out so scurried off down the hill.

I have a garmin, but if I forget to charge it I use hole 19 on my phone & it does hammer the battery.

Some years I stopped using hole 19 because of the battery drain, probably a bit better now phones have bigger batteries.
Made the switch to a Garmin.

You people have crap phones if it can't run Hole19 for 4 hours without dying. You don't leave the screen on the whole time do you?? I've not had the battery problem since 4 years ago when I was using a 3 year old phone on its last legs.

He didn't think anyone was around because he's never hit a green from 80 yards.

Mine wouldn't work this morning...another half an hour of my life gone and in the end they suggested a factory reset
It now works but I'm getting perilously close to binning it.

Just nearly died on the driving range. Three absolute hackers on the far left bays mucking about, one of them duck hooks one - it clatters off a lawnmower or some other machinery that's sitting on the left side of the range, comes flying back at double the speed, misses me in the middle bay by about a foot at waist height - then clatters around narrowly missing another feller as well. No apology is offered, just raucous laughter from the three of them. Shrink the bloody game!
The range that I use installed a ball tracking/LM system a couple of years ago, complete with "challenges" and "courses to play". The demographic of the users of the range changed overnight. Its now full of kids and families and yoofs out to have some fun, rather than golfers trying to do some serious practice.

This morning the near exact thing happened to me. To be fair the lad wasn't mucking about, but he did exactly the same thing except he toes (with his driver) it into the frame of the divider between the bays, it flies back and hits a stanchion, whistles past my chest (I'm in the bay "behind" him), hits the divider behind me and rolls gently between my feet. I pick the ball up and gently lob it back over the divider onto his mat. His dad apologises and says..."its his first time...he's never hit a golf ball before"...and then the lad promptly toe'd the next one straight into the divider!! Luckily me practice session was virtually over and I finished my last half a dozen balls with some quick chips before retiring to a place of greater safety.

Whilst the range has been busier than it ever was (in spite of a 20% hike on ball prices) and the club in question must be absolutely raking in a fortune, the reduction in general golf etiquette of folks using the range and the increased dangers (regularly you get uncontrolled kids suddenly appearing in your bay half way through your backswing) I'm afraid when the £30 I've got left on my range card expires, I will be seeking somewhere else to practice. I fancy a "range membership" at Felixstowe Ferry....£200 per year (which easily covers what i spend at the current range) and unlimited balls plus other club benefits.

Our range has encountered similar change of users since Top Tracer was introduced, but what the club has done is changed the range to put larger dividers (both higher and longer) as well as putting up nets along the edge of the range.

Possibly the case here too, but by contrast, before they put the Trackman in the place was dead in the water. It's only ten bays and it was always empty so I feel he had to upgrade it. I like using the Trackman myself as well of course. I'll just have to put up with a near death experience once in a while. 😄

This is a golf forum. Half the members are probably still using a Nokia 3310
