Golf Random Irritations

I played in our Midweek Stableford yesterday in winds gusting up to 40mph. 168 players across 4 divisions, and only 17 played to their handicap. The winner in the A division won with 38 points and there were only 4 scores of 40 or better.

I woke up this morning and PCC was 0, just like it always is, just like I knew it would be. I put a GP card in a couple of Fridays back, fairly benign day, decent score, it's Friday, probably not a lot of GP cards going in. I woke up on Saturday morning and PCC was -1:mad:

What does it take to actually get PCC to move up, does anyone actually know? Genuine question, as it seems to me, it requires either completely unplayable conditions or nobody in the field betters 20 points. (sarcasm)

Wife is playing a best 2 out of 3 Open today. Not sure if this is amusing or annoying.

Checking the scores, a 30 plus handicapper has birdied a par 4 and the team score for the hole is 9 points🤣🤣🤣

Tough school eh?😉
For balance and objectivity, what were the rest of the players scores? 😏

I'm pretty sure it's a proprietary formula and as such has never been released. I know I had a PCC of +1 and +2 in my first 15 handicapping rounds! I'm now up to ~60 rounds and I've had it twice since and both are -1.

It is a proprietary process which compares the distribution of players' scores posted on that day for that course to the expected distribution of scores for players of similar handicaps on that course. If there is a significant statiscal difference , then an adjustment to the course rating is implemented for scores made on that day on that course.

The key phrase being "expected distribution." Unless you've seen a copy of that, any comment is a guess. 🤣🤣🤣

“Expected distribution”

More guessing hidden behind “algorithms”

What irritates me is how anyone can score 40 points in 40 mph winds. 😬

New Ecco H4s. Existing Eccos scruffy and not a bit malodorous despite generous applications of freshener. Bright idea, shove them in the washing machine. They emerged unscathed, a bit cleaner and easier on the nose. For reasons beyond human understanding, I decided to reach through the Velux and put them to dry on the sloping slate roof. Gravity overcame their grip and they tripped down only to lodge in the gutter. Picture me perched on some steps, half out of the window, straining to tip them over with an old Titleist driver. I'll let them dry at room temperature next time.
Rod Hull did something similar trying to fix his aerial

But what about only 17 people playing to their handicap. As I said originally, "what does it take for the PCC to go up" other than an "expected distribution"?
I agree, if the phrase "expected distribution" is used, then that implies that 10% of players playing to their handicap is within the boundaries of a typical day on the course. It must be tough!!!:oops::oops:

Our Aug medal was won by someone with a nett 64. How are people meant to play against people with clearly dodgy handicaps and getting so many shots?

He was off 7 :ROFLMAO:

Many moons ago I shot a nett 61 - good enough for 5th place.
A 58, 2x59 and a 60 in front of me.
