Golf Random Irritations

I wish,
I've been in 4balls with him twice before and even seen his FC go as far as to quit mid round
No point putting myself into that position for my one game this weekend so I've sorted a social round for Sunday instead

But I'll miss the comp vibe

Well the GP social round turned out ok as substitutes go
A medal tee PB of Gross 81 for 39pts will hopefully see a wee cut in the morning...

There are also a few clubs who don’t bother with a website at all !

New Zealand GC in Addleston ( they have a website now) is basically just a nice photo and a contact us page

Mind you, there are many clubs now who have great websites and very professional operations.

Saunton's office are excellent, also look at Aberdovey. My buddy did the drone footage and the site. Really good.

The generalisation about 1970s Secretaries might still exist in some places, but they are a dying breed.

It's been years since our club have had your archetypical Club Secretary. After the last one departed, the club gave the job to Secretary's secretary, the lady who had actually been doing all the work all those years.

Lovely lady, very efficient, very knowledgeable.

When you've swung well all day and then after one poor shot, your playing partners start trying to tell you what you're doing wrong, what you should work on. Especially if you know what caused it, and it's not what they claim.

Happened twice in the last couple of weeks. Driving the ball really well, multiple holes, and then hit one slice or catch one low on the face, and it's suddenly, "ooh you came down a bit quick there, ooh you weren't as smooth." Shut up. 😆

Absolutely nutting a drive straight down the middle and a F.C. standing next to you as you address the ball for the approach shot and saying "yeah, well it's where it is after two that matters"..........Yes, I know that, shut up!

I do not know if it has changed since moving from that area (assuming you mean NZ GC in Woodham) but at one time that club was a very exclusive club limited to members and guests only so they probably feel they have no need of one.

In our regular Tuesday swindle a few years ago we bought in the requirement that to win the kitty you had to put in a General Play card all because of one player who kept winning with 40+ points who despite promising never put in a single card. Albeit sadly that guy passed away so the requirement was dropped.

Now we have got another such guy in the group so we had to being it back in. What is annoying with him is has been asked if he put in card, when having the best score, he said yes but when it was checked he had not.

Both last week and this week he got reminders before going out about putting in a card but still did not do it (last week he even pretended he was putting in a card by asking one of the others to sign the card for him after the round).

Plans have been put in place............

That behaviour would result in a "non-invite" in our groups.

He's lying to you. That's reason enough to just tell him to find another group. Anything less and you're being very generous.

The 95% allowance in singles strokeplay...
It's my understanding, and I'm quite happy to be corrected, that the 95% is used to even things up.
Without it, higher handicappers win more often.....
So the 95%, effectively, drops a stroke or 2 from a higher handicapper's playing handicap and leaves lower handicapper's PH intact....
Imagine my irritation when, upon entering today's comp, I find out my 6.2 index, that gives me a CH of 7 only gives me a PH of 6
Whereas my erstwhile partner in crime, CVG, who has an index of 16.2, CH of 18, gets a PH of a full 18 shots.......doesn't lose anything.....
It transpires that my CH works out as 6.507 - hence the CH of 7...95% of that is 6.18. (95% of 7 is 6.65)
CVG's CH comes out at 18.453. 95% is 17.53 hence his 1i shots...95: of 18 is 17.1
Equity?
My arse........

Still beat him though :ROFLMAO:

I thought CH was always a round number, or am I missing something?

Where do you get the decimals from? The tables and IG/EG just give whole numbers
That is why it is decimals for comps. The computer just works it out directly.

Whereas if a golfer had to work out a % from a decimal in their head things are going downhill quickly. So, course handicaps given as whole numbers and then they can work out any allowances more easily in their head (I only ever need to do it if it is 4BBB to be honest)

Given that your course handicap is 0.007 shots from being 6 instead of 7, and his us 0.047 from being 19 instead of 18, can you really be that upset (if you'd lost anyway :) )?

Your course handicaps are basically 0.054 shots from being a 11 shot difference (as they are now, using whole numbers) to a 13 shot difference

I wonder if anyone that is suggesting these calculations is aware of "significant figures"? Getting all of those decimal places from an original whole number (the player's score) seems crazy!

At least I’m not doing anything wrong if it is just left to the computer 😁
