Golf Random Irritations

Golfers, so called, who have no idea why ropes are put out in winter when the course gets soggy.....
Just wheel their trolleys through, under or over the ropes as that's the way they want to go......
Peasants

And add to that a general lack of etiquette, manners and good old fashioned common sense.....
Its been a wearisome day.......

They're the ones who never repair pitch marks yet moan about the state of the greens!

We on about Fragger 🤔

For a couple of years we had a ghost 'cutter' who was sneakingly cutting such ropes. Despite massive publicity we never found who it was, although playing partners must have been aware. The greenkeepers then introduced some fabric coated wire ropes. That didn't deter him, he had obviously bought some wire cutters!
We now reckon he must have left the club because we haven't had a problem this year (yet).

How weird, but it takes all sorts.

My mate does it all the time, and it drives me mad. I'm constantly giving him a hard time, the other week the green staff must have had half a dozen signs and some rope across the 10th fairway, and he just walked past it. I shouted to him pointing out the signs and in particular the middle one which said "all golfer this way except S** ******* L**** who can do what *** **** he wants". He said he hadn't seen them.

The Greens Chair sent an email out today on the very subject. I'm praying for the day my mate ignores the ropes outside the clubhouse on 18, and the chair, who is known for it, confronts him. His squirming will be legendary.

I can find myself pulling up members for such things - and they know they shouldn't...but they still do whatever they think... well quite honestly I have no idea what they think.

One common one at the moment is that we have many short lines of three or four posts in the ground that are there to make as walk round the area they protect from 'winter wear'. Yet where a trolley can be squeezed between two posts some take that as a go-ahead to do just that...I just don't get it - I don't like thinking of them as ignorant or selfish - but I can't think of any alternative.

Scorecards that use a tiny font when the box will clearly take a far larger size, so i can see the bloomin numbers
(& not using a higher contrast)

Looking at the latest County Golf mega sale clothing items and saw this written under one of the items:
"US SIZING - YOU MAY NEED TO GO DOWN A SIZE"
..it's a pair of shorts. The sizing is in inches. Are inches different in America somehow??
And Far East sizing might mean you need to go up a size.

It is what I hate about using terms like medium, large etc - give us actual sizes.

One thing that made me laugh was I was given a St Andrew's CG polo shirt as a gift and it is clearly sized for the Americans.

Horizontal scorecards as well - it's got to be vertical!

Narp! Not havin it 😄

Once you've gone horizontal you can't go back (just like switching to meters, yards just don't cut it anymore) ;)

I struggle to recall seeing any vertical scorecard that can fulfil boxes for 4 players gross & nett (or points) plus 2x pairs alliance scores plus a 4 person team score.
Lots of vertical cards can barely cope with a 3-ball and players are entering 2 numbers into one box with that silly diagonal line workaround

Horizontal is the only way to go (y)

That's only because horizontal cards are massive.
If we had massive vertical cards they'd be able to do all that too.
But massive cards are awful, especially massive horizontal cards. ;)

The ones I see/use are same size. Honest other than my irritation re font size horizontal is so much better

I suspect that whatever you're used to is "better" - until you get used to something else.
My experience in playing overseas is that most scorecards are horizontal.

The only vaguely objective reason I can think of that makes vertical better is that at school we learn to add up in vertical columns.
(Not that I've had any difficulty adding up scores on a horizontal card).

I find it easier to hold/read/write on the card when it's portrait as well. If it's landscape you have to awkwardly hold it on the bottom edge rather than nicely at the side.

Since our course ratings have just changed, our pro shop has chucked all the old cards in the bin and we're currently having to use temporary ones that are printed on paper, don't fit in my card holder, and only have three columns for player scores instead of four. Shocking! Give me a horizontal card over that rubbish.

PGA Tour Professional golfers "Aimpointing" a 2 foot flat putt.........

No issues with AP as such as long as it doesn't take too long but...really?
2 feet
And flat..?
