Golf Random Irritations

Had my name on the starting sheet for tomorrow morning. First round of the month and second of the year.

Just took my name off, because I am not going to play in continuous rain/sleet, 2°C and NE wind.

Today and tomorrow I will self identify as wimp.

You reckon it'll affect flying 🙃😉

After our trip out last year I thought you'd be well up for it!!

Website quoting THB 7,500 for 3 days 2 nights and 2 games of golf.

When I inquired for 8 people, the price was THB 15,100 and
this is in the low season.

I played today and hands got very cold despite having mitts.
It was not until the 14 tee that I remembered I still had handwarmers in the bag, taken out earlier in the year but never used.

Course is open this morning but everything is absolutely frozen solid, should never be open, it’s a competition as well.

We had test winter on our 9 hole course many years ago to judge the effects of playing on frozen ground - the result was we stopped having temporary greens for frost and never closed the course for the same either.

We had one year (about 2007/8) when it was almost a permafrost for many weeks and the course was kept open all the time with no damage.

For my match yesterday I took out my full set…I’ve been half set for a couple of months.

On long par 3 15th, with match tight and me giving a shot, I completely forgot I had full set with me and played the forced club I’ve been using when playing with half set…it went wrong and I ended up losing the hole.

Felt a right eejit 🙄

Separately…played really well tee to green - if I missed a fairway it wasn’t by very much and hit most greens in reg…but my putting deserted me totally…not holing anything; three x 3 putts, and missing about five from inside 3ft. Yet still played to 9 ish (against CH of 8).

played solid golf for 16 holes on a course that was very wet, tee boxes at the back and probably shouldnt have been open let alone a qualifier ..... only to blob the last 2 holes with 2 silly mistakes 🥲

Used my powered trolley on Saturday for first time in a couple of months, but after playing I couldn't get the battery out.

Thinking it must have jammed through lack of use I attacked it with much WD40, pushing and pulling...but after much frustrating failure I stood back and pondered on my failure...and what to do. I then spotted the small release catch...yes...the one I'd completely forgotten about

Went on a simulator on Saturday, (new one in Cannock, enjoyed it, if anyone is local), I just can't seem to drive the ball further than 210 yards. Really frustrating seeing the numbers, I knew I wasn't a big hitter but that seems really short. I know distance drops off as you get older but I'm 41 🤣

This may not help you, but at 72 I thought that I needed to change my clubs to reverse a loss of distance. The pro said that I didn’t need new clubs but tune up lessons . He restored the 30/40 yds driver distance loss with a few lessons, I’d gotten out of the habit of lessons and hadn’t realised the detrimental changes that were occurring over the years. More tune ups planned.

I do need a lesson or two I think, I'll see what the pro can do...and if a new driver will compliment the lessons.

Every year the OEMs seem to claim their new driver gives 10 yards extra distance. If your current driver is 5 years old, you just need to buy the last 5 drivers and replace with a newer model and you've got 50 yards extra distance*.

*You can't short cut the process by simply buying the newest driver, you need to follow the yard 10 increment per model.
