Golf Random Irritations

Picked up a DQ at the weekend due to not completing the round or handing in a card. The rain just became torrential and was pooling. I don’t have time to wait or pick up and restart an hour or so later.
But I don’t really understand what the DQ is going to achieve on my rounds ? It’s set at 41.7 over my handicap .. just odd

What did you expect them to do if you don't complete the round or hand a card in??

Dunno, but what is the point it won’t ever count unless I stuff up some rounds and then it may become one of my counting rounds …
So if you completely blow up and have your worst round in years, but actually finish, are you saying there's no point putting that in your handicap record because it'll never be a counting round?

I would still pop that in .. but I think being 8 -10 shots adrift isn’t a biggy but 40 is quite influential

It’s a heathland and one of the best in the world

Does that mean

Archerfield
Hillside
Renaissance

Are parklands as they have trees

In fact the ladies Scottish is at a Parkland - Dundonald

Played Fidra recently. Certainly not links. Mostly lined with pines. In places it even reminded me of Woburn!😉 (the other course is less lined apparently, if you meant that one 🤣🤣)

Hillside is a bit hybrid. Played the Belfry with a Hillside member last week. He used the word hybrid. But it is "linksy."

Indecision and tinkering.

I haven't actually bought a new club in nearly a year which must be a record for me - but today I randomly had the idea to put my 5 wood back in the bag instead of my 7 wood. The 7 is lofted down to 21° but the 5 can be lofted up to 20°, which feels like better gapping with my 16° 3W and 23° hybrid. And it will even be the same shaft as I was already using the 5W shaft in the 7. Tested them on the range tonight, and of course, the difference was fairly negligible and now I have no idea. I think maybe lofting up instead of down should means the face is more closed and I seemed to hit it straighter - even drew it once or twice - so I might give it a go this weekend. But I always kinda liked being a 7 wood guy. 🥲

So you have a Driver, 3wood , 5 wood 7 wood and 23degree hybrid?
Which do you hit the straightest ? Keep the driver but the 2nd club should be your favourite.. I am guessing they probably are all in a 20 yard window?
Set your bag for the course don’t carry what you don’t need .. I carry a Driver 5wood and 24 degree hybrid .. that means theoretically I can cover 480yards with 2 clubs … a 3 wood may move me to 500 yards but it’s not consistent and I am happy from 110-85 yards in.
So add a bit of logic to your decision and be pragmatic.. realise that only the driver and putter are one shot clubs the rest need to give you options and be reliable.

It's really just a choice between having 20° and a slightly closed face, vs 21° and a slightly open face. The former will get the nod this Sunday and then we'll see.

I agree that "lofting up" closes the face. Isn't the theory that the player will then open the closed face at address, thus increasing the loft?

Surely distance is what matters not loft?
Yeah, I've often had a sneaky suspicion my 7W and 23H were going similar sort of distances. Couple of extra yards on the 5W head should be ideal. I did a bit of gap test last night but it was on outdoor Trackman, and they only give you 6 shots with each, so it was a little inconclusive.

If the distance difference is less than 10 yds, just keep the one you hit most consistently. You have other clubs to make up any difference in distance.

I think I hit them pretty much the same, they're both Cobra F9s. It's effectively the same club either way which is why the difference is so negligible. 😂 I guess that was the nature of my irritation - tinkering in such a negligible way causes indecision. I have decided to use the 5W for my next couple of rounds though and see how it goes.

Sell one of them. Then you have no choice over which one to use, and no potential for indecision.
