Golf Random Irritations

…that on the course yesterday my attempts to hit a 6i were utterly futile…I might as well have been trying to hit it with a spade. Maybe 80% total rubbish, 20% barely adequate. Yet on the range today I hit 20 absolutely pure…one after the other. Aaaargh….🤷‍♂️🤬

And I missed Rose Zhāng at my place earlier on today visiting and having a practice chipping/pitching session and a few holes…darn…

Our range is across the road from the first tee. There is a common saying - you can't carry the strokes made on the range across the road. Often heard on the first tee or fairway, "I never hit one of those on the range."

My ability to strike a golf ball on the course far exceeds my ability to strike a golf ball on a range or in a studio....has done for years.....
I used to have it that way round, which was preferable, but not anymore. Now my Trackman app gives me a 'Trackman handicap' of 4. 😂 A man literally stopped and watched me the other day because I was striping everything so straight. Needless to say, not quite the case on course.

Exactly the way it should be. The range is such a sterile environment, completely different to the actual game of golf. I would much rather spend my time on the course. If conditions allow, you'd get so much more from playing 3 holes with 3 balls than an hour on the range.

Or even doing something like playing 'worst ball', hit two balls and playing from the location of the worst one, and keep doing that.

My weekly practice time is around 8:15pm on a Thursday so range is kind of my only option sadly. Though I've been managing to sneak 9 holes in on a late Tuesday afternoon when the weather's decent - will try and get down again today. 😬

He was wondering how you were hitting it straight with a swing like that

;)

Me too. I'm awful at the range and even worse in a sim. I've never been fitted for clubs partly because the idea terrifies me - how can they possibly assess my swing when my "sim swing" is so poor?

I've always found the studio with trackman to be very enclosed and restrictive, I find i buy clubs more on the looks and the quality of the strike rather than what shows up on the screen

New Ecco H4s. Existing Eccos scruffy and not a bit malodorous despite generous applications of freshener. Bright idea, shove them in the washing machine. They emerged unscathed, a bit cleaner and easier on the nose. For reasons beyond human understanding, I decided to reach through the Velux and put them to dry on the sloping slate roof. Gravity overcame their grip and they tripped down only to lodge in the gutter. Picture me perched on some steps, half out of the window, straining to tip them over with an old Titleist driver. I'll let them dry at room temperature next time.

Don't put them in the oven
